Hey guys, wanted to get the lowdown with the wireless router Vodafone give you.

How good is it in terms of the features you have.
I was hoping to be able to put it in bridge mode (turn everything else off) and use my
netgear DDWRT- 3500L for wireless, security has it has loads more features.

If you could let me know that would be tops.
I'll do some digging around on the net as well and post anything decent I might find.

cheers

Don't think it supports what you want to do, check these instead:

A TP Link TD8840 (PPPoA Half bridge aka IP Extension) is ~$60

A Draytek Vigor 120 (full PPPoA to PPPoE bridge) is ~$110

The modem/router is a Huawei HG556A.  It does NOT support wireless bridge.  Frown

Hmm it's not quite clear from your question whether you are looking for a adsl modem to bridge to your Netgear via network cable or for another wireless AP that will bridge to your Netgear via wireless.

Sorry to be unclear.

I need a basic adsl2 modem to do the modem side of things and then use the netgear DNR3500L to do all the rest.

I have a feeling i may need to buy a cheap modem off trademe!

The two I linked earlier are the best current options, not too expensive to buy new.

If you're looking at trademe you could keep an eye out for these which can be setup to work in half bridge:
- Dynalink 1320 (note these tend to overheat and crap out after 1yr use, particularly in summer)
- Linksys AM300 (these use a texas instruments chipset that don't get as high line rate as broadcom chipset modems on Telecom wholesale equipment in the exchange/cabinets)
- Thomson TG 5xx (these are pretty finicky but can be made to work)
