I use my VF router (HG556a) to update my DynDNS.org account, it has worked for some time, however it no longer seems to work - I have double checked the passwords, etc. but still no joy - any ideas?

Does the router have Dyndns.org support built into it or were you using the software client ?
If the router has it built in and you were using that, its possible DynDNS have changed the way accounts are logged into and the routers method is no longer valid and is failing.

Check their website for any recent changes.

Also some routers have really bad code in them... You are supposed to update DynDNS only once every few hours, or when the IP changes. My parents-in-law had a DLink router (yes, that brand you shouldn't ever touch) and it updated DynDNS hundreds of times per hour, obviously causing the account to be locked out.

Thanks for the tips guys....but still it doesn't work

I am using the Vodafone Huawei HG556a which has DynDNS support buit in - I haven't tried using their client, I assume it would work but I really want my router to update it. My account is fine and I know the router can login to it. There are 3 options for updating the IP with DynDNS on the router:

1. pppoa/voice/something I can't remember
2. voice
3. BR0

If I set it to 1 (which should be my IP) then it doesn't update DynDNS.org's settings
If I set it to 2 then it updates with an IP but not with me IP - I haven't worked out what the IP is, I assume it's what the IP should be if I had VF voice on the modem
If I set it to BR0 then it gives DynDNS.org the IP 10.0.0.1 - which is my router's IP on the LAN

When I set the router with setting 1 and save, on the settings page it says 'Voice'

I did set it up originally and it worked fine, so not too sure why it doesn't now.

Any other ideas?

Does anyone have it working now?

For the free account, you are only meant to update DynDNS when your address changes. Touching it every few hours will block your account.
I moved to a Linksys / Cisco WAG310G which has dyndns support but had to stop using it and move to their software client as the router kept updating the server and they kept blocking the account for abuse.

The software client has its own problems though. If you have the updater set to on, and the service can not reach the address it uses to find its external ip address, after a few failures it seems to turn off the updater service, so, when your access is restored, your IP address is not updated. Quite annoying.
