Does anyone have a list of the websites that are counted in the Xnet Local Data and do not count towards the data cap?

What is considered 'free' local traffic therefore does not count toward my data usage?

Whoa the inclusion of the akami cache would lead to quite a bit of free data

Xnet host akamai caches, akamai control what's on them. Companies pay akamai to have stuff stored on their caches around the world.

Typically things like: windows updates, apple itunes downloads, nvidia and amd drivers updates, many websites static resources (images, video, css, js) and much more is distributed via akamai.

It's impossible for Xnet to tell you what's on there at any point in time as they don't know, they simply don't count traffic to and from the servers they host in their network/data centre.

So basically... just treat it as a nice bonus that when you've downloaded something it might not have been counted as data usage.

It was great when we had to download SolidWorks (officially, my wife is one of the best in the country) and it cost us nothing. We're talking of a few GB of data, and really fast (since it is local). So I guess you can add SolidWorks to the list of free data.

You can never have enough Volvos!

Just wondering if tvnz ondemand is now counted, as it is now using akami. I noticed that my local download that I haven't been charged for is about the same as my national and international, so they must be including quite a bit these days.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Out of curiosity, I checked the usage today by logging in to the account manager.

It appears that the usage monitor (from Firefox plugin) hasn't updated it's total since 07.15am yesterday (July 12th). Perhaps that is why you haven't been charged?
