Hi there

What servers should I use in order to send emails using Outlook (a telstraclear email address) while on Vodafone 3G prepaid mobile broadband?

Would I only need to change the outgoing server?

You shouldn't have to change anything.

Seems TCL wont let you connect to the smtp server outside their network.
Which means you're basically going to have to use another email account (unless they have an SMTP server that WILL let you access it?)
Or webmail.

You can use Vodafone's SMTP server while connected to their network. This differs to both XT and 2degrees that don't have SMTP servers available.

Telstra Clear should be providing you SMTP access from anywhere if you have a mail account with them (authenticated of course). It's not the best to use 3rd party email servers as your mail is more likely to be considered spam by many receiving mail servers if the originating SMTP server isn't authorized to send mail from a particular domain.

Use this

Incoming POP : pop.clear.net.nz, authenticated with username / password

(Leave the above unchanged if you are able to receive email successfully)

Outgoing SMTP : smtp2.vodafone.net.nz, make sure "My outgoing server needs authentication" is NOT ticked i.e. no username / password required.

Save the settings, should solve your problem. Will work as long as you use Vodafone Mobile Broadband internet.

Thanks for the replies. Every now and again I'm not using my home network (i.e. travel from Wellington to Palmerston North) and ultilise my mobile broadband stick on the journey up, so I'll note down the STMP server for Vodafone and change it each time I require sending emails through Outlook while on the mobile 3G network.

Hi, there's a way around that too! You don't need to change them every time...

POP : pop.clear.net.nz, authenticated with username / password

SMTP : smtp.clear.net.nz also authenticated with username and password. Tick the box I previously mentioned not to.

Try SSL on / off settings to see which one works for you, this way you wont have to change the SMTP server if you use mobile broadband or home broadband. It will work anyway with any internet.

Not sure if you need to pay extra $$$ to use the Telstra SMTP, but I reckon there is no harm in trying, it MAY work!!! :)

Unfortunately does not. :( Changing outgoing server to smtp2.vodafone.net.nz does work, however.
