I have an iPad2 Wifi 3G which has never had a simcard installed. On switching on I get "No sim card installed"
In a couple of weeks, I am going to Queensland. The Telstra iPad starter kit looks good value ($30 3Gb).
My question is, can I purchase the sim, get the shop to activate the sim and simply insert sim in to iPad2 and start using immeadiately; or will I also need to connect to itunes and activate the sim before I can use it?.
If so, I would need to take a laptop across as well to access itunes.. :-(. I will also have my pocket wifi, (probably powered by Aust Vodafone) to enable laptop and iphones to have net access as well. Any help appreciated. Maybe this should be on another forum... could not find an Aust forum :-(. Many thanks

When I got mine I just popped it in and it worked, no iTunes required. You will need ID and I think your address to buy one, so take your passport in store, and hopefully they accept your NZ address, they must get people buying for once off use all the time from overseas. If you're looking for more Australia-specific information, try Whirlpool, it's the Australian Geekzone equivalent.

While Next G is the best network in Aussie it's also not cheap. You can get far better value from amaysim unless you plan on using the entire 3GB.

I expect to use over 1.5Gb; the NZ Herald daily download by PressReader app and Newstalk Zb listen will take around 1.5Gb before emails etc..
The Amaysim looks good value. $39.95 for 4Gb and free communications within Aust and 15c a min to call NZ is good value. The casual data rate of 5c per MB is also good, but would cost me around $100 for 2Gb.
