Hi.

The Telecom Wholesale Broadband availability tool indicates that the Spotswood area, (in purple below), now has ADSL2+

If you live inside this area has your Synch speed or download/upload speed increased dramatically in the last day or two?

My router is still synching at ADSL1.

You've probably seen them before. I have had a couple of threads going recently and have been waiting from ADSL2 to be enabled at the recently upgraded Spotswood exchange. The purpose of this thread is to ascertain if anyone has noticed an increased synch speed in the last day or two.

Full ADSL1 synch speed, within 1km of exchange. Router directly connected to incoming line which is wired from demarc point in Cat5E . Internal wiring is all patched to the VOIP port on the router. No internal wiring on DSL side.

DSL Status:          UP

                                             DSL Modulation Mode:   GDMT

                                             DSL Path Mode: INTERLEAVED

                                             Downstream Rate:           7616 Kbps

                                             Upstream Rate: 896 Kbps

                                             Downstream Margin:      11 db

                                             Upstream Margin:            14 db

                                             Downstream Line Attenuation:    31

                                             Upstream Line Attenuation:          15

                                             Downstream Transmit Power:      0

                                             Upstream Transmit Power:           0

Probably not what you want to hear, but i couldnt get my wag54gp2v2 to sync at ADSL2+ at all. Has the same firmware, and I spent hours on the phone with both slingshot support and linksys support but it just wouldnt do it. We have a stable line that supports ADSL2+ with 18meg sync on a Dynalink modem.

So you might like to try a different modem if you can, it could potentially isolate the problem for you.

Bugger. I'll see what Xnet have to say. Got a PM to Cameronn. It might be time for a new SRP 527.

Anyone got a WAG54G synching at ADSL2+?

Now that I think about it my sister has the same router (earlier firmware - never used voip) and I'm sure she has ADSL2 on TelstraClear.

Have you tried reset to defaults? Should not make much difference, but it is essentially just a computer and over time if you play with settings it can get confused.

You can never have enough Volvos!

Would definitely try a different modem, and possibly if that does not work ask having the port to be reset.

Hi all.

Looks like the Broadband availability has jumped the gun or is in error after a recent update. Xnet have reported...
"You are connected to ADSL2+ equipment but Telecom Wholesale still have the profile set to ADSL1 speeds (confirmed this via our testing tools this morning)."

Oh well. I'll keep waiting & waiting & waiting.....

I'm on the Spotswood exchange (SWO), and my modem just started syncing as ADSL2+ today (11 August).

The rates have increased, but not as much as I expected?

Current model stats: Linksys AG241
ISP: Xnet

DSL Modulation Mode:    ADSL2+
DSL Path Mode:    INTERLEAVED
Downstream Rate:    9078 Kbps
Upstream Rate:    847 Kbps
Downstream Margin:    12 db
Upstream Margin:    12 db
Downstream Line Attenuation:    24
Upstream Line Attenuation:    13

Previously the modem stats were:
DSL Modulation Mode:      G.DMT
DSL Path Mode:    INTERLEAVED
Downstream Rate:    6080 Kbps
Upstream Rate:    672 Kbps
Downstream Margin:    12 db
Upstream Margin:    12 db
Downstream Line Attenuation:    24
Upstream Line Attenuation:    14

So my downstream rate has only increased 50%, from 6080 to 9078 Kbps.
And upstraem rate only increased 26%, from 672 to 847 Kbps.

Is this the usual performance gain going from ADSL1 to ADSL2+?

Our house is 500m from the spotswood exchange (following the street).
So I thought the speed would be much better as we are quite close???

Unless the copper lines go in another direction, around another street, would could make distance to exchange 700m.

After a bit of searching, my 24 dB downstream Line Attenuation suggests I am approx 1.7 Km from the exchange? So no idea where the copper line goes? Obviously not direct.

Plugging in 24 dB suggests I should be getting up to approx 18M down with adsl2.

Any tips on what I can do to improve things?

Try unplugging all your phones and extension phone leads and reboot the modem. If the synch speed improves, you may want to consider a central adsl splitter at the Telecom termination point and a cat5E or Cat6 cable from the telecom termination point directly to your router.

My internet dropped off around 2.30pm today, checked my modem webpage, and model synced a few minutes later with ADSL2+.

Something really screwy with my line then.

House was renovated 6 years ago, with new cat5 cabling to jack points.

Maybe tomorrow I'll try plugging the modem into the test jackpoint, where the line 1st enters the property by the garage, check for any difference on ADSL2+.
I have tried this jackpoint before on ADSL1, but no difference between this primary test jackpoint, and any jackpoint in the house.

I'm fusion as well. Cat5e cable direct to router. Internal phones patched to phone port on router. Very similar setup. I'm on Fantome Place, Whalers Gate. supposedly within the 10Mbps zone. Have you checked your address on the Telecom Wholesale broadband availability checker?

I'm on Crownhill.
telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps suggests for my address that ADSL2+ on SWO/Exchange is scheduled for Sep 2011. And VDSL2 on SWO/Exchange scheduled for Sep 2011.

So chorus must be switching over houses early to the new adsl2+ gear in the exchange.
