Hi guys,

I just bought a Time Capsule to replace my Linksys E2000. The E2000 was running fine but I wanted a wireless external HD, which the Time Capsule provided.

So I've set the Time Capsule up with all the same settings, as follows:

IP address: 121.73.247.68subnet 255.0.0.0gateway 121.73.247.1dns 203.97.78.43203.97.78.44
After doing all the setup and plugging the TCL internet cable into the WAN port, the Time Capsule light went green.

The problem is I have no internet connection!

I can ping the router (10.0.1.1) but that's it. No DNS server response and no web access. I've fiddled around with the settings for ages and have run out of ideas.

I'm kind of annoyed with Apple - this has definitely not 'just worked'.

As soon as I plug back in my E2000, everything works fine. So I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with TCL or the cable modem.

Anyone have any ideas?

BTW I have also updated the firmware, it is on 7.5.2. I can also connect wirelessly to the Time Capsule fine and it seems to be working OK apart from no internet. I'm wondering if it's broken?

Can't help you with Time Capsule I'm afraid, but just so your aware - starting the same thread in different forums is generally considered not cool to do on ANY forum on the interweb.

on your E2000 was it dishing out DHCP to the local network if so is time capsule doing the same with simaler info?
If so is there DNS and Gateway info in the dhcp setting

and this line subnet 255.0.0.0 probally should read 255.255.255.0

And finally, try restarting your cable modem incase its arp cache is still holding old info on the E2000.

E2000 did have DHCP dishing out IPs internally. It was using 192.168.1.x range. My Time Capsule is using 10.0.1.x range, so I'll try matching that.

I have tried resetting the cable modem a few times but it doesn't seem to do anything. IS there possibly a way to hard reset it?

Oh and I'll change the subnet mask - it was originally 255.255.255.0 but I switched it to 255.0.0.0 as that is what the E2000 had and I was trying to match it exactly!

Subnet should be 255.255.255.0

It's also essential you reboot your cable modem, and on some occasions there have been people on here say they've had to leave it for 10 - 15 before reattaching another router. The ARP table can only have a single MAC address behind the modem.

As posted by Steve. The modem needs to be rebooted. Better to turn it off for 15 minutes, because that's the time the nodes will hold an old MAC address in their tables.

As a counter exampler, I have one of these. I entered the right numbers (The ones TC gave me). It 'just' worked.

That's great - so maybe you can help me get mine working. Are there any settings you changed in Airport Utility that you think I might have got wrong? How did you set it up - did you go through the wizard or just do manual setup?

I've attached some pics so you can see what settings I put in. I've triple checked they are the same ones as Telstraclear gave me.

PS: I tried the 15 min reboot of the cable modem (20 mins to be safe actually) and still no luck.

I'm a bit of a thicko with this sort of thing, but why have you selected your Connection Sharing to "Share a plublic IP address"?

I think that is the option you are supposed to use if you want al the internal devices to be using the same IP externally. I think it is pretty much the default option. From memory, the other options are 'bridge' and assigning a range of internal IPs.
