I am trying to MMS a person in Australia on the Optus network with no sucess. I can MMS to Voda Oz, other person can mms to and from Voda Oz. Optus confirms it has a share for mms with Voda Oz so why cant I go Voda NZ to Voda Oz to Optus? Shouldnt life be this simple??

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

You can only MMS to Vodafone OZ and thats it

Not at all. You will find out that operators in the UK frequently don't have how to send MMS to other networks. It's just that there are no interconnection arrangements in place.

But there is an interoperability agreement between Voda NZ and Voda Oz and also one between Voda OZ and Optus so it can hardly be put down to a lack of knowledge.

Any agreement put in place has to be backed up by planning and implementation, lawyers, software, engineer time etc etc.

If the total cost is $10k, and a PXT costs 20c, and the profit on that is 14c , then thats over 71000 PXTs to be sent to break even.

If 500 kiwis send 4 PXTs a month to Optus, then thats about three years to get a return on 10K.
The money is better of in the bank, because if half of those users stop PXTing after the first month, the figures get worse.

You wouldnt catch me making that sort of investment.

Is your Vodafone account activated for PXT®? Click here for instructions on how to activate your account for PXT®.
Is your mobile configured for PXT®. Click here to configure your phone if required.
Is your phone a Vodafone PXT® approved handset? Click here for a list of PXT® compatible handsets.
What network are you sending to? You can only send a PXT® to Australian Vodafone, Telstra and Optus.

So they clearly have an agreement.

As do Vodafone NZ and Telecom New Zealand. I fail to see how this point of yours reinforces your point of view, National PXT / Photo Messaging is one thing, and perhaps the Network operators are able to take a risk on this service for the convenience of their customers. International is a whole new issue.

Vodafone Australia has an agreement with Telsta and Optus. Not Vodafone New Zealand.

How hard is that? I am about to classify this thread as "trollish". This means lock it up since it is not serving to any purpose. Exposing the lack of MMS interconnection has been done, so the objective was reached.

MMS is a mess at the moment, much like texting was when telecom first started offering it.

I recall a long time ago, they had a trade your phone in for a free 025 damps-136 one with a few months free texting.. woohoo, I went in, traded my olf 021 bellsouth branded flip phone for some nokia 2120 or something, went back to work, pluged it in, tried texting an 021, and it didnt work. Went back to the place, whined and moaned and told them how F'ing useless they were for offering a free texting that was unusable and yeah. Seems nothing changes with phone companies

It's a shame international MMS interconnection is such a shambles and that this will obviously not change in the near future. International SMS is a huge business these days and MMS could obviously be the same.

Fantastic excuse, but it still stands that phone companies are still marketing inoperative products seemingly thinking that being able to use the most basic of features inter-network is sufficient.

Imagine how lame it would be if you could only send IMs to people that share the same ISP as you, What they are doing is pathetic compared with where it should be at.

Also for SMS there are two different technolgys been used acorss the networks.

The MMS issue is identical to the IM issue - you cannot send an IM to somebody using another IM platform. The only work around is software that can support multiple IM protocols.
