1) I assume the T-Box unit replaces the existing TCL digital decoder? ie: you don't need both.

2) Can the t-box connect to an older non-HD TV, which currently has a TCL digital decoder connected?

3) There's a lot of people describing t-Box issues in these forums. Is it working well for anyone?

WB I don't know the answer to the first two questions, but like you, I'd like to.  I know people who have older TVs and are looking at what they do about the impending freeview switch over.

As most know, I've been looking at my options pushing forward because like many of you here, I'm not very happy... in fact it would be fair to say I'm quite unhappy.

If I understand this link clearly, and I don't know if I do, it would seem to me that I can have a free T-Box if I just agree to stay with Telstra for 2 more years.

In my case I don't currently think I can get better performance from another provider, so I'm a bit stuck, so I may as well look for the best deal I can from the company even though I'm unhappy about it.

Ya, this is the bit that's holding me back.

I just don't know.  People who I trust to know about this issue just tell me "it just doesn't work".

The pages and pages of posts on the box would tend to suggest keeping away from it with a 10 foot barge poll.

But then I get this email:  "We've recently updated our T-Box software, so T-Box customers now get an even better TV watching experience.", with a link to a page about the updated software.

As Telstra are still selling the box, one has to assume they are working because otherwise they create a CGA problem for them selves like the long running TIVO issue that seemed to drag on for month....  that's my take anyway.

Hope this helps in some way.

D

Hi, for 1 and 2, yes you only need the one box (ie T-Box) but you still require the Motorola Surfboard modem to get EPG data, (very lame). And yes it can work with older non HD TVs via composite, S-Video or Component.

As for 3, I suggest you check out the long running thread on software issues, I have to take my hat off to the loyal customers who put up with such a flawed product, but I suspect TCL have lost a lot of customers to MySky as a result of this.

Yes, I would think so.

That's one of the reasons I'm looking at my data usage.  I want to drop my plan cost down and look at just getting a MySky service.  This is what I meant about Triple play bundles being bad.

I agree with you Cyril7, the hat does have to come off to the loyal customers.

I have to make the same observation to the TiVo crowd as well! :) :) :)

Some stay not for loyalty but more by laziness... (ie me) I probably would fine the time but as we're planning to move I don't see the point at the moment.

If it was a new installation, I wouldn't bother with the T-Box at the moment and would go with Sky.
