This is quite funny, but I have just received a text from +447967440739 saying:

You Have Won $1,700,000.00 Million Pounds. in APPLE IPHONE Ref No: IP171G. For Claims Email Your Name, Mobile No. To: ukappleclaims@hotmail.com

What to make of it? Have I really been given that much money? ;)

3 people at work got these today, so there must have been a lot of txts sent. I guess people are getting wise to the emails and they decided to try a new approach. I'm not how people could not fall for this scam<---sarcasm.

Got three of these as well a few days ago, two from RIM for 2 million quid and one from APPLE for 1.6 million quid. Came from UK +44 7968 352873, +44 7974 130064 and +44 7974 130075. Very generous I fell, makes up for texting me at half one in the morning!

Only possible as an explanation if they were coming from other national carriers, surely.

yes.  Now we have much cheaper data we can spend more on phone software that has sensible alerts in it.

Sooner we stop texting the better.

I received the iPhone txt today... first spam I've ever had on my cellphone. Have I merely been lucky up until now?

International connectivity is BAK (like 2d was pushing for).  But if there's a massive imbalance, Telecom and VF will seek a commercial agreement involving MTR charges.  As least, that's what I remember them claiming from the MTR debate.

I beat you all, I got one from RIM Blackberry for 2.5 million pounds, which woke me out of a sound sleep at 4:30 am. I've gotten a total of 3, all from different numbers. And who knew that RIM used hotmail?

Coincidence. Like RIM has any spare money to give away these days anyway...
