Hi folks,

I have a SonyEricsson c903 which I purchased from a Vodafone store in NZ 2 or 3 years ago. One of the first things I did with the phone was set up my gmail account to download new headers to the phone automatically via imap.gmail.com. This worked great for a while and then one day simply stopped working. (this was several months ago, so unfortunately no recollection of me making any phone/email changes around the same time)

I have no problem using 3g and HSDPA to browse the web, including gmail.com and any other site I fancy, but I cannot get the phone to connect to imap.gmail.com - it tries, puts up the icons for internet connectivity etc but eventually times out saying server cannot be found.

I've double and triple checked the gmail server settings, and downloaded phone settings from both Vodafone and SonyEricsson, but no luck.

Any ideas?

So far I have tried the following fixes found on various forums etc...

Disable then re-enable IMAP from within your gmail account - no change

Try using imap.googlemail.com instead of imap.gmail.com - still timed out

Try deleting your account from the phone and starting fresh - I was most hopeful about this one, phone found all correct gmail settings by itself - server, port, etc. but the problem remained the same - timeout, server not found.

APN: live.vodafone.com

live.vodafone.com APN is for the WAP Gateway (vodafone live & PXT)

You should be using www.vodafone.net.nz

That's sorted it,

Thanks, johnR!

So now just out of curiosity - I'm no expert - if live.vodafone is only a WAP gateway, what type of AP is www.vodafone.net.nz ?
