hey,

just wondering if anyone has had any experence in getting moved from the exchange to a conklin cabinet, in another post around on GZ it was exstablished that the cabinet about 1-2KM up the road is a conklin (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=44&topicid=92148), however the exchange is about 3.5KM away.

in the last year we have had issues where somehow we were put into a telecom connection (im pretty sure chorus must of put a cable in the wrong place or something) which left us being constantly dced for well .. not actually being the phone number assigned to that connection, but then being forced to reconnect to that same connection :L

anyway, since then we dropped from a stable 3.5mbit/768kbit(limited upload due to the adsl1 profile at the time), we are now forced on an adsl2plus profile which at some point along the line forcefully disconnects us if we force adsl1 again, and sync speeds are some what messed up since then.

so basically what ild like to do is transfer from the exchange to the cabinet, i have seen many free ports inside of it so i don't see it being an issue but as with previous experience, im expecting one and trying to prepare for it before i talk to vodafone about the transfer.

i understand the conklin would only have a 4mibt uplink to it, but its worth a try at lest :)

i dont see vodafone removing this profile given the history on our line so im trying to find ways around having to mess with that.

Item                 Downstream    Upstream    Unit
SNR Margin        12                 12              dB
Line Attenuation 58                 29              dB
Data Rate          2082             804             kbps

heres some linestats for anyone wanting to see them, that line attenuation has spiked up to 58 ever since the profile was forced opon us, here is a screenshot of our linestats awhile ago as you see there is a decent drop and change in all stats there,

also to note is that our line has a master filter installed on it and i ran many isolation tests just to be sure nothing is causing the drop thanks all, -hio77

No help yet? Have you tried posting in Vodafone's own forums? http://forum.vodafone.co.nz/
Although Johnr here is very helpful, he is more a mobile specialist, where as on Vodafone forums there are a few more active Vodafone staff.

johnr: Sorry I could not help directly with this question, Ask on the VFNZ forum for sure

thats fine john, i knew you wouldn't really have anything to offer.... only trying to make this as hassle free as possible :) hopefully the tech support will just do it, seems like its a pretty straight forward request, sure i dont know forsure if there are ports on the coklin but im pretty sure i saw a few open ports a few weeks ago when a chrous tech was in there so hopefully its a pretty steady move

WAK/C

as coffeebaron has pointed out the coklin is right there, i also have been told directly by chrous techs that we are connected to a cabinet, since i am clearly connected directly to the exchange im not on the coklin so ild say thats not too much to ask to be moved between those two :)

although im not fully sure on how the transfer actually happens i assume its just some form of a patch cable of sorts to switch it over (people seem to post about being transferred between gear all the time, although generally it is wholesale to their own gear so i suppose its slightly different)

guess, guess its just more for me to pickup on as a trawl around GZ though :)

oh and btw, your suggesting to me to post on the vf forums, normally you guys are encouraging us not to post such requests around there since its not part of your job etc :L

All you can do is lodge a fault for the 1/3 loss of speed.

Request to be migrated onto the cabinet as a fix.
(May or May not work, But its worth a try)

well seems the connection bet me to getting it moved... had to go away for a few days, get home to find it syncing at 232kbs... thinking oh yea its nothing i rebooted the router, went to make a call ... and find out nobody mentioned the phoneline was down aswell... worst static iv heard yet..

lodged a fault but may be some days before we are even contacted with a time for the tech to come look... most frustrating part of this... i must use my phone for everyting :L get the bill for the account number etc.. 3g signal here is pretty good, however drop down to 2.5 and i must be in the right spot once again -.-

anyway once the phoneline is sorted, maybe i can get them to transfer... the csr wanted to put proiorty on the phoneline...

lesson learnt.. dont reboot the router without checking the phoneline
