I'm not entirely sure what's causing this problem but here's my situation.

I am on the telstra 10g cable plan.
My internet stops working a lot.

This PC that has the issue is connected to the internet wirelessly. You'll be thinking that that will be the problem, it'll just be my wifi dropping out but what makes me think this isn't the case is because:
Signal Strength: Excellent (90%+)

belkn wireless monitor

The picture above is what my belkin wireless monitor displays when I get this problem. As you can see, my PC is still talking to my wireless router but it can't get to the internet.
While I am having this problem I can still access my router setup utility (192.168.2.1) and my modem (192.168.100.1)

So why am having this problem?

TIA,
Zach.

BTW, I didn't know where would be the best place for this thread so I just put it here as it may be a telstra related problem.

What lights are displayed on your modem while you are unable to access the internet? Is the green 'Online' light solid or flashing? What do you do to fix the problem or does it just start working again eventually?

I'll have to check the lights when it stops working again, I have them hidden away...
I usually don't do anything to get it working again but I sometimes "repair" my connection via the button in the system tray but I don't know if that helps.

If the "online" light is flashing then your modem isn't connected to the headend on the TCL network meaning it's a TCL network problem rather then at your end. Check the RG6 coax connector on the back on the modem is securely fastened as well.

Same deal for me in Khandallah. Random dropouts all evening (20th) and again tonight it seems (21st).

No news on the TC webpage, but its helpful to know it isn't just me...

:O So I'm not the only one or is it just a coincidence? Mine last about 5 minutes. I just got one then which was my 4th since the creation of this thread.

Edit: 7th, it dropped when trying to post this :/
I could keep editing forever.

I didn't expect other people to be having the same problem as me.
I guess it's a good thing and a bad thing. Good that I won't need to upgrade or change something on my side and hopefully it's
temporary, but bad because our internet is still dropping

I'm still not 100% sure that it is a telstra problem though but it's sounding like it is.

Me too and I live in Khandallah. I kept on power cycling the router/switch and also the modem and it seemed to fix it. Really annoying and I thought I had hardware problems but apparently not

I have been experiencing this issue for about 3 weeks! (in Kapiti). Connectivity dropping out every 15 minutes or so for 1-5 minutes at a time. Seemed to vary a bit at different times of the day.  Made several calls to Telstra who informed me each time that work was under way or had been completed on the network and to call back in a day or two if it was still not working. After many increasingly frustrated calls to Telstra they finally sent a tech out early this week - replaced the modem and measured levels etc. But unfortunately it made no difference! :(

Ironically - at the same time that many others seem to be experiencing this issue - my connection seems to be behaving itself today!? No idea why - but I'm happy as long as it stays this way.

I have been having the same issue.  I have called Telstra a couple of times but the CSR's I spoke to have told me that the network is fine and told me they would need to send out a tech to investigate (which I informed them was not necessary).  I suspected this was a problem on their end, so its good to know I'm not the only one.

Really hard to game when your connection drops regularly though :-/

One of the biggest roblems I have with TCL is that they appear to not be able to monitor the network remotely or simply fail to so. Sure they can ping your connection to see if it works and simple and effective solution, but when there is a problem such as dropouts or amazing failure, I have found that TelstraClear FAILS! Simple.

What TelstraClear needs to do:

Update the network status page on their site (although when you need it you can't get to it anyway unless you use "the competition")

Have better call centre policies eg: check if more people in the area have called in or are affected and OFFER MORE HELP.. sending a technician out AFTER THE PROBLEM IS GONE DOES NOT HELP US.

But other than that you offer great services Cool and I look forward to all improvements you make in the future.
(Please drop the data caps and bring back the free TCL to TCL data [Please] Foot in mouth )

TCL need to sort out their whole cable network. Period. I know they have had a big uptake of customers over the past 6 months or so and it's obvious network infrastructure and bandwidth obviously hasn't been upgraded fast enough to cope with this.

TCL cable is heading the same was as Chello did at present - there obviously isn't the bandwidth available to support the current user base. I expect to be able to stream audio at 192kbps in the evenings and not have dropouts. Doing this at present is damn near impossible.

Here in Lower Hutt I haven't seemed to have experienced the same continual dropouts other parts of the network are experiencing but did have huge troubles for months so know what it's like. The simple fact is that what is happening at present is not good enough. I've been a customer for probably 8 years now and have never known things to be so bad.

I wouldnt call occasional dropouts a "major disruption." No connection at all maybe considered a "major disruption"
