Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar.

My daughter is on Supaprepay, in central Auckland, and on Vodafone. She is not receiving TXT messages from her friends but can still send them OK.

After testing, it seems that if a TXT is sent from Vodafone's Free2TXT option on their internet site, then those TXTs come through OK. If see checks her balance by TXTing BAL to 777, she also gets a reply OK.

But, if someone sends a txt from another vodafone mobile, OR via WEB2TXT on the vodafone internet site, then those TXTs are not received. There is no indication on the Vodafone website of any problems, but there is a message when one dials 777 indicating there could be some network congestion issues.

She tells me that she has had problems since yesterday. It seems like a network problem to me, that affects just some mobile numbers.

I have tried removing / reinstalling the battery from her cellphone, but that did not fix the problem.

Is anyone else having similar issues, or are we alone? If others are having problems, we will just wait, but if we are alone, we will call Customer Services tomorrow and see if they can help.

Tested the SIM in a different phone, and all the queued messages came through. Thanks John, I will look closer at the setup in her mobile.

You haven't said what sort of phone she has, but my guess would be it can't store any more SMS's. This used to be a common issue on the old days when SMS's were actually stored on the SIM card!

I thought of that, but it wouldn't explain why ALL the free2TXT test were successful, and ALL of the mobile to mobile plus ALL the Web3TXT tests failed!

UPDATE. I put her sim back into her Vodafone 858 mobile, and all the queued messaged came through ( over 20 of them).

I thought the the problem was resolved (can't explain why, but I accept that mysteries can happen).... but not quite! A test sending from web2TXT now works BUT, a couple mobile to mobile texts (from 2 different Vodafone mobiles) have still not come through. So it seems that we have a partial cure only.

NOTE: There has been no changes to the configuration settings on her mobile at all.

I guess the next test would be to try mobile to mobile with her sim back in the spare cellphone - we didn't try that before as the problem seemed to be resolved at that time.

OK, another update.

I put the sim back into the spare mobile (Alcatel525). cleared all the outstanding TXT off the sim. Then sent a mobile to mobile test TXT. That didn't come through initially, but then started getting heaps of queued messages - again!

(What is it with teenagers? ... She gets more TXTs in a morning that I get all year! - But I digress)

Any, all expected TXT have now come through with the SIM in the spare mobile.

Have put the SIM back into the Vodafone858, and mobile to mobile TXT's are working now. Re-tested Web2TXT and free2TXT and they also work now. So, it seems that everything is probably OK now, but I don't really know why, or what the problem was. All I know is that it was necessary to use an old mobile to kick things back to normality.

Thanks John and Steve for your suggestions. Just hope the cure is permanent :)

I have seen issues like this when handsets get 100s of SMS on them sometimes, It's a good idea to delete all SMS

Hiamie: I thought of that, but it wouldn't explain why ALL the free2TXT test were successful, and ALL of the mobile to mobile plus ALL the Web3TXT tests failed!

It could explain it - in the UDH there are various flags that can be sent, including class 0 (flash SMS), class 1,2 and 3. I don't remember off the top of my head which one does what but these allow SMS's to only be send to the SIM, MS or MT.

If the phone wouldn't accept a standard message, Vodafone's Web2TXT could be sending their messages with a different UDH class that allow them to come through, while the other messages are being rejected because the phone is full.

Yes, I considered that there could be some tie up with different classes of TXT message. However, I considered any problem tied up there would be back into the network rather than the phone itself. Also, I am not familiar enough with the different classes of message to form a hypothesis.

Regardless, I am just pleased that it is all working again... just don't know for how long!

I don't know how my daughters would get through the day if they didn't have access to their messaging! Could be that they would give me more grief than they do already :(

Thanks again.

Further update for anyone interested:

After working fine for 24 hours or so, the original problem once again returned!

My daughter again used a spare mobile to get her queued paid messages (FreeTXT messages were coming through normally as before). She did that and then returned the SIM to her original phone. A test showed that paid TXTs (mobile to mobile) were still not coming through.

I suggested that my daughter reset her her phone from the menu (It is a Vodafone 845 - not an 858 as mentioned earlier). Anyway, that did the trick, and once again things are working normally.... but for how long?

Can you try clearing the message app data.
does not clear text messages

settings -> applications -> Manage applications -> All -> Messaging -> Force stop/clear data.
Restart the phone and see if that helps

At the moment (well... last night anyway!) it was working OK. If the problem shows itself again (quite likely I think!), I will try that and report back.

Thanks for the suggestion.
