Thanks for any reply in advance.

Can I use my sure signal unit with any modem or just with HG556a?

If it is designed only to be working with HG556a, is there anyway to get around it?

I think it works with any modem, so long as you are connected to Vodafone broadband obviously.

I have used it with other modems,

Under the FAQ section on the Vodafone site we have a guide so it can be used with other modems

Mine was just plug and play, easiest setup in the world. I'm running a Draytek.

The difference is the VF supplied modems are preconfigured to work with the Sure Signals. Other modems may require some configuration.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

Thanks so much u guys, this really helps me alot as I am about to bridge my HG556s and use WNDR3700v2 with as wifi router. (People at customer service told me a definite NO, but I thought I need to make confirmation with the people who actually know what they are talking about, and looks like I am in the right place :)

Now I am confident to carry out my change. BTW, I still haven't got my new updated sure signal unit, they told me they would be send in batch, but is this normal to be this late?

I had to do a whole lot of mucking about with my gen 1 Sure Signal, but the new one was just Plug and Play. I'm using a Belkin router.

Johnr, could you explain the 'Vodafone expanded coverage' on the other band please? It seems that this will cover a lot more of the country if your handset is capable of this additional band.

What I would like to know though, is what band are calls/text messages send on please? ie if you have an extended coverage capable phone, will this improve your call/text reception (if coverage permits) or is it for data only?

Extended 3G 900mhz and everything goes over it if your handset is attached to it not just data

2G could be turned off and the end user on 3G would not even know

Ok great, thanks. My parents are in an area with poor Vodafone coverage but it appears to be covered by the extended coverage band according to the coverage maps. They don't have any capable phones though so I'll test it with my new 900 MHz capable phone next time I'm back there. If that works then we're onto a winner and I'll just upgrade their aging phones to extended band capable units and we should be done and dusted!
