Anyone here in Blenheim had the Telstraclear door knockers offering fibre? A friend of mine messaged me last night asking if it was a good deal or not, i was blown away just hearing that they are door knocking and offering the service!
Apparently home phone + 40gb for $80pm, first 2 months were free. The rep said the speed would be between 10mbps and 40mbps depending on how close to the junction you were (huh? i would have thought they would offer set speeds, not a "see what you get" approach). I queried my mate pretty hard but he isn't the best when it comes to technology but it was definitely fibre they were offering.
Said telstra rep is coming back tonight so should know more then.

Well that does look quite similar. However I asked my friend several times and the rep definitely stated a Fibre optic connection, and that dosn't explain the 10-40mbps??
edit: yeah the more i look at it the more it looks like that is indeed it.

.. still leaves a few questions as to why this rep is saying what he is saying.. will get my friend to grill him when he comes back

Fibre speeds don't change depending on how far away you are. Sounds like the rep was selling their 40GB DSL broadband deal and got the speeds/terminology wrong.

Hi, I have been asked by relatives about this who were spun a similar line, upon investigation it was just standard homeline, the fibre bit seemed to relate more to the fact that a cabinet was recently installed a street away, but end result is poor training.

potentially a case for false or misleading advertising too.... perhaps they are purposely trying to take advantange of the UFB hype by injecting the word fibre at every opportunity

Hi everyone,

In Blenheim, as in many other places, our services are carried over fibre to the cabinet, and then copper to the home. From the OP, it appears that there has been some misunderstanding during the conversation between the sales person and the customer. I’ve passed this thread on to the sales team management and they will remind sales staff to try and be as clear as possible during conversations with customers. Thanks for letting us know.
