Just wondering if anyone can tell me how would I go about adding an MX record for a domain registered with TelstraClear. Is it possible through their web management console? (It's not something I registered and I'm trying to walk someone else through it, so I'm not too familar with the web management system that TC uses)

It has to be hosted on a DNS server, and then through that you can change the MX server by logging into that DNS servers control panel. TC may not provide a free DNS server if you are not paying for hosting services, you would need to contact them. Or move the domain to another provider that has DNS hosting and a control panel

The user needs to log on to the Clearnet self service portal at https://sso.clear.net.nz/clearnet-selfservice/login

They use their account number as the user ID, they should know their account password (if not, it's a call to support).

The DNS Management tools are inside that portal.

On the left hand pane is a link to Domain Names, select that and it will take you to the DNS Management section

Current registered domains will be listed.  There is a "modify" button on each row, which opens another screen that lists the domain name, the SOA record, the MX record and any other record types registered down the left.  Click on the MX record to modify it.

If there isn't an MX record, down at the bottom left of the screen is a drop down box that can be selected to add various record types, pick your record type and click on the Add button next to it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks elmesg! We got there with these pointers. (and then found that it isn't really needed, since the A record, target host and MX are the same and SMTP falls back to A when MX isn't defined, lol :))
