Hi

Need to get a new wireless router + hub asap.

Thought I'd by 2nd hand

Will this work with snap, ie. are the vodafone modems locked for use with vodafone??

I had a very similar model and it wouldn't work on my mums xtra account so she was stuck with the Thompson.

Yes this modem will work on any ADSL ISP in NZ. Vodafone don't lock modems.

thanks, i just grabbed a cheap TP-Link modem router wireless switch, as they were 20% off at warehouse stationary and needed to get one asap.

HTPC / Home automation (home assistant) enthusiast.

So that's where everyone's getting them from.
Change the default admin username/password, enable ACLs and disable access to it from WAN on any port. They're insecure.

So were the Thomson units that Telecom were supplying. Free internet around most of Wellington anyone?

TP Link units seem to be surprisingly reliable, I've used a number of their products and have had a lot less reliability issues than I have with significantly more expensive products. Good value for money.

They are good. stable as all hell, they stay up for months

Yeah - it's pretty good, but disabling access from the outside would discourage anyone from trying to brute force it.
Under the "Management" settings you' find ACL (Access Control List). It decides who has access to control the unit, on what ports and from what direction (eg. LAN or WAN)

i guess it depends on whether you care about echoing ICMP requests.
should definitely switch telnet off on the WAN side.
