what would be the best way to get an RBI signal to a house in a hollow 400 metres away
line of site may be possible
would a VPN network work off a cellular router
is there another bit of tech that could be used
this place is on the edge of the coverage zone

If line of sight isn't possible there probably aren't any options except a long cable run.

I'm also unsure what a VPN has to do with this - can you explain?

a cottage on a farm stay is on the edge of the RBI coverage zone
the house is dipped down in a hollow about 400 metres away with no coverage
vodafone will not come out to install in areas not strictly in the coverage zone
i was wondering how to get the signal down to the house.

So what you want to do is to install the RBI in the cottage, then send the internet into the house?

yes
it is my friends home stay
they are on farmside satellite and i am trying to sort something better.
they get reasonable spark but there is no sign of the spark tower being upgraded to 4G
This is south island remote rural
i am going out there tomorrow with assorted sims and phones to check signals.
i am going to ring farmside too, i see they have decent RBI deals
the vodafone signal may get to the house but i doubt it
even though voda and spark are pretty much next to each other on the same hill they are sectored towers and voda sector is weak in there direction

Vodafone RBI is a professional install with an external antenna so will always result in vastly superior signal to a mobile phone.

yes i know
i have RBI
if i can get any bars at all on vodafone RBI would probably work ok
it will be marginal even at the cottage, it is 11 klms away and at the edge of the range
also in winter they power down the tower, just reve it up again for the tourists in summer

They may not do it now they have RBI
But they used to Vodafone said they did.
It is not uncommon.in tourist areas.

I still want to know what a VPN has to do with this - because a VPN will work fine over a RBI connection.

A friend runs an accommodation complex and he takes a signal from 6 klm away and uses nano stations to transmit the signal around his units.in the bush.
He calls.it a VPN
Virtual private network
The idea would be to do similar on this remote farm stay from an RBI feed

That is not a VPN, he's just extending a wireless network from the sounds of it.
