ooh that 2660 flip job looks very similar to Herself's ye olde Samsung phone.

If buying the cheap ones check they aren't locked to Spark only.

back in my day at Spark retail, you could pay $30 to unlock a device or wait 9 months(ish) and they’d give the code for free. Dunno if it’s since changed
There's a story about this on The Spinoff this morning too: https://thespinoff.co.nz/internet/13-12-2025/the-phones-that-will-stop-working-with-nzs-3g-shutdown

While there is all the phone upgrading, looking at that 6 year old SIM card before popping it in.
Any benefit to getting a new SIM card worth going in to get number moved onto a new card?
How would you know the limitations of your card and if they matter a hill of beans?
@ezbee SIM card has zero to do with VoLTE or 3G / 4G / 5G you could have a Bell South SIM card from 1993. VoLTE is handset and notwork related
SIM is only used to ID a subscriber onto the mobile network

@ANglEAUT OMG lol 😆 😂 🤣 😅 clowns 🤡
Must be something that's changed with SIM cards at some point. Wife received the following a few weeks ago:
Hi, 2degrees here. A heads up, as your SIM uses older technology, it will soon no longer be supported on our network and you will not be able to make calls, text or use data. To stay connected, visit a 2degrees store and get a free replacement SIM ... (snip, you get the idea)
People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.
Keep calm, and carry on posting.

@stu It will be related to improved SIM card technology / security not related to VoLTE or 3G / 4G / 5G aka network functionality
Could those sim cards date back to this https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-31545050 sim vendor compromise happening and they are just using 3g closure as an excuse to finally make people upgrade?

That's interesting One delayed it, considering they announced recently they had already upgraded every tower to 4g at least
@grantius OneNZ & SparkNZ will be watching very very closely what happens with 2degrees and making sure it doesn't blow up in media frenzy
One persons phone won't work and then it will be a media frenzy

I noticed on RNZ this am they said 3G has been around this 2009. Hmmmm, think it was launched 4 years prior, but hey: who’s counting?
