Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
I didn't notice it at first - I was playing a game (with headphones) and it went off just as an in-game self-destruct timer hit zero. It took me a moment to figure out why it was still playing over the "load game" screen! I then thought it was a smoke alarm going off...
@SATTV:
When I hit the home button the message went away, there is no way that I can see to go back to see the message.
Must be an iPhone thing. My Huawei is showing a notification that shows the message again.

My HTC 10 never got it and I had even gone into messages beforehand and turned on Cell Broadcast but no message
Oblivian:cruxis:What setting on phone disables this?
The setting that sees you buying an import (not tied to NZ operator firmware) or non iPhone device.
It cannot be bypassed.
you won’t be able to opt-out of receiving Emergency Mobile Alert. Your phone may show optional settings used in other countries, but in New Zealand we will use a special broadcast channel that is permanently on.
That is any company that agrees to deploy a change (apple and Samsung) to known NZ telco firmware

Everyone else's message has the functional title "Emergency Alert". Mine has the much grander "Presidential alert"!

freitasm: Must be an iPhone thing. My Huawei is showing a notification that shows the message again.
It's viewable from my iPhone by doing the "swipe for notifications" thing.
I got the message on my oneplus 5 the strange thing though is mine was about 3 min after everyone else got theirs and my brother got it on his iPhone but it never made a sound.
For something that is meant to get the message out to everyone as quickly as possible 3 min could make a huge difference to survivability.

My parallel import S8+ still got the alert. Although the alert type was written in Chinese, and the tone didn't seem that loud. The message content itself displayed fine. Phone has Taiwan firmware on it.
Glad that I got it at the same time as everyone else. As I was expecting the alert to go out at exactly 1800. Was initially thinking that I would be long dead due to a disaster if my phone had a 15min delay.
SWMBO's Mate 8 got this:

Actually she's had 7 alerts so far since 1818. Guess she's now the PWMBO.
