Apparently another one has been hit in Porirua, the article refers to it as a 5G Tower but as far as I know there are no 5G sites in Porirua yet unless Vodafone has upgrades done there and their coverage map is yet to be updated

Maybe someone should contact RNZ to tell them that when they said:

The 5G towers have been linked to concerns about telecommunications technology causing illness.

they left out the word "unfounded" or "baseless" in front of "concerns".

I really wish people would take a moment to TRY and understand how the technology that surrounds them works, then they wouldn't be so fearful of it.

But then again, these types of people aren't worth wasting your time/effort/breath on, as they've got it stuck too deeply in their simpleton minds that everything and everyone is out to get them.

Just because you’re not paranoid doesn’t mean everyone isn’t out to get you.😀

I think it's time to invoke the Christchurch Call for this. The cell tower attacks are terrorism. I don't know the precise media used by the conspiracy nuts in New Zealand, though I imagine Facebook is one, but we have reached a point where every Covid/5G nut comment that appears anywhere should be immediately squelched with the strongest possible response declaring without apology or explanation that the conspiracy BS is utter nonsense based on fake science and people determined to wallow in ignorance can believe whatever they like but public expressions of this nature will no longer be tolerated and anyone expressing any form of support or approval for the cell tower terrorists will henceforth be subjected to close scrutiny by the relevant authorities. Shut these people up and drive them underground. There is no point trying to reason with them. Since they are so determined to believe in conspiracies, give them a real one to worry about.

Terrorism generally has an aim to instill terror. This is not terrorism. Vandalism seems to fit better if you're looking for a term.

If your elderly mother suddenly can't breathe any more, and some druggies are desperately pounding on your door mistakenly thinking it is a tinnie house, and your garage is on fire, and you can't connect to 111 or anything else, I would imagine that might qualify as terror.

In terms of CCTV, I was wondering why they don't just add that, they've got power and comms infrastructure already there. Just curious, is it a technical reason or just not enough resources at the moment?

Destroying critical infrastructure is classed under terrorism in some countries. Not sure what our laws specify in this area.

What do you expect CCTV to capture? And why you'd expect CCTV to be a magic fix? It can't for example see through a balaclava!

Discriminating against people running competitively in groups could be described as racism. That doesn't make it an accurate description.

I don't expect it to be a magic fix. I expect it to be a deterrent to some, it will force the rest to change their behaviour, it may capture a face or license plate, and seeing someone wandering around in a balaclava and other heavy getup to disguise their identity will draw attention to them.

It's not about creating a magic bullet, it's about raising the bar.
