Does anyone know if/when telcos plan to increase their respective L700 coverage?

@Aucklandjafa New L700 & L900 is getting turned on all almost everyday along with 5G

I get email updates from gis.geek the updates also include new sites registered by which carrier and technology on the site

sure thing, but what about existing sites where L700 was turned down to match the respective U850/U900 coverage? Spark’s 3g coverage is still substantially greater than L700 off the same site - surely they’ll address that prior to switching off their 3g network?

@Aucklandjafa You need to give the carriers some time as the networks will require a retune after the 3G is actually shutdown

Still getting U900/U2100 service when I put my 2deg phone onto 3G only mode. Guess it'll be switched off at some point today. Impressive they've stayed with U2100 this long TBH.

Just got a call from a stubborn old man who bought a cheap phone from 2 degrees and was told it had 4G. One of those useless phones with no keyboard that you press 1 three times to get the letter C. Well his phone is dead this morning and he needs it for texts from the bank.

Is there a chance this will come right later in the day and it’s just a glitch? Anyway I said I’d look for a cheap smart phone for him so at least he can send messages easily. Any suggestions welcome.

If he bought it from 2deg in recent years it should work. Can you check it's not been set up to 3G only mode or something like that?

Yes it was bought from 2D about six months ago with an assurance it would work on 4G. I called the number and it goes to his answerphone so that part works. He said that when he puts it in the charger it used to show an orange line showing the charging. Today that line is green. I suspect that’s because it is already charged but unsure.

I will go over there later and check, however if it doesn’t turn on I won’t be able to get to the settings.

@Eva888 Tell us make / model or no one can help you! This is most important bit of information required

Leaving this here for anyone that might hit this issue:

VOLTE was not active on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 on Skinny. Even though everything was as suggested and the phone did get VOLTE on 2degrees, One NZ and Spark.   After going around in circles with customer support I got to the right people via a formal complaint.

They instructed me as follows:

I can see that you currently only have the settings for text and data to work. To ensure your VoLTE (voice services) will function after the 3G closure, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Network > Access Point Names.
  2. Click "Add".
  3. Enter the following details:

    • Name: ims
    • APN: ims
    • APN Type: ims
    • APN Protocol: IPv6
  4. Leave all other parameters unchanged except for the ones mentioned above.
  5. Once done, click on the three dots at the top right of your screen and select Save.

This should enable VoLTE on your phone.

This did work, Galaxy Note 9 now works fine ahead of the 3G shutdown.

Will be interesting to see if One NZ proceeds with their RCG 3G shut down tomorrow, then.
