Just stop there. You don't need to keep repeating yourself. We're not going to stop you from having your own opinion but sidestepping the thread causing an argument in the process is what I would consider a breach of the FUG. Congrats on stopping your alert but don't blame us when the robot uprising, zombies or a tsunami catch you out by surprise.

People misunderstand, take me out of context, put words in my mouth (I'll blame Samsung for their poor software, thanks), ask me questions, or just have terrible logic in their arguments - and I'm supposed to not respond? Plenty of people acting like jerks early in the thread and that's fine yet I get told off for responding to them; and now you want to start flaming me?

Was at a friends place down in Hamilton when the test went off.

Friend and I were like oh yay it works.

Partner wasn't aware, and was asking what we did... we were talking about one of those 1 use emergency panic devices at the time..

Worked on all the official and Chinese imported phones in the house.

The theory of a TNZ/NZC/VNZ specific HW/CSC firmware update required just flew out the window. Which goes against their 'make sure your device is up to date' hinting at a NZ change. Latest S4 is only like 4.1.1, as with some older non listed handsets that triggered

I got it - iPhone7, so expected.

I always have my phone on Silent, but I would have thought that for an application like this (which is built into the phone by the manufacturer) that it would bypass the Silent switch/setting and make a racket. A vibration will not wake me up.

I'd run every phone with Silent turned on.

I use the speaker (for Speakerphone, or watching cat videos), just prefer not to have it annoy me with emails/texts/messenger/phone call noises while it is sitting on my desk/beside my bed.

I also leave mine on silent all the time. My watch alerts me for phone calls and impending calendar appointments, and I work on the assumption that nothing else is urgent enough to require my immediate attention. Unfortunately that assumption is probably wrong with respect to Civil Defence alerts.

I have mine on silent too, but the speaker works for things like podcasts, videos etc, so it still has a use when the actual alerts are on silent.

Well that rules out the bung skinny idea. Unless its a lot more regional/tower based.

It also adds to the 'up to date' handset confusion when you would expect a new one to have the right alert channels enabled. Further pointing finger at potential NZ only customisation that happens to work on global handsets from certain areas/ultra new OS
