If you have line of sight coverage to the other property then yes, a wireless link is an option.

If you don't have line of sight coverage it's not going to work.

Is this on the same property? Question on RBI, lets say the house was in a hollow or beneath a hill so couldn't get coverage - could you setup a repeat station with the routers in some kind of weather proof enclosure and solar power/battery to power it and a repeater down to the house?

he gets a signal from a broad band connection of a friend and transmits the signal across the water with nano station to another nano station on his place and has other nano stations on his property
what is the proper name for that then
just a wireless net work
what is a VPN then exactly

i would like to know if that is how i could do it.
i would not need solar
there is a cottage on the property with power that can get signal

other wise  i will use some sort of wireless system

Running a wireless connection between buildings is simply a wireless link.

invest in some decent wifi gear. check ubnt gear  on this website http://www.gowifi.co.nz .. You may require electrician to wire in some data leads to tv pole etc part from that it be assured to get your internet that distance .

hi thanks
yes  i know about line of site and fresnel zones and tomorrow i will check
it may not be able to go directly to the house, it is a hilly place and it may have to go first to another tower and back down to the house and another station
before RBI came to the bay people set up wireless net works from a feed in the main street next to the telecom building
the signal was bounced from hill to hill
there were 20 houses on it a some stage
it was a private network

Have you actually had an RBI installer confirm that you cannot get coverage at the location? That would be far simpler.

The wifi gear I'm referring to will fire signal up to 50kms away so in most case it doesn't have exactly line of site. Obviously signal wont go as far it has burn though solid objects but generally if only 400m away it get signal their without a issue

yep they will work as they got plenty of range and they reasonably easy to setup. Give gowifi a call their contact details can be found on website. I be surpised or shock if does get a private link going between to sites without more than about 10 mins of configuration once equipment is installed.

Rubbish. At 400m you could very well have no signal if you don't have LoS or significant obstacles such as trees, terrain or buildings in the way. Obstacles such as trees will also very quickly kill a signal in the rain even if they are only partially obstructing LoS.

And at 50km there is no way you'd have a stable link using 5Ghz with no LoS. You'd also need a link that was exceptionally narrow with clear fresnel so LoS and correctly aimed dishes would be essential.
