That sounds like a cop out. You’d expect that they could collate spam call complaints across their customer base.

Yeah that sounds like the hard line that stems from the legislation requirements for lodging ptsn abuse

But reasonably sure in the day of ip, logs and handovers there should be more involvement with mass annoyance calls before getting to that level

openmedia:

Spoke with Skinny yesterday and I was informed that they can only respond if I've had 4 calls from the same number. Sadly all the recent calls have been from different numbers.

Argh

Call them again and explain that as they are a member of the NZ TCF they are obliged to act.

I had the same answer once with Vodafone and after I explained the above and waited a few minutes on hold they agreed and took down details of a single scam call.

Most of the ones that I'm getting seem to be spoofing legitimate looking domestic phone numbers, but when you call them back the number is invalid. They also seem to be varying the STD code - e.g. calling from 09 844... and then a bit later calling from 04 844...

Is there no way the telcos can detect spoofing of the caller ID?

Only with lots of digging and blocking the inbound provider ip range I think. But many have a domestic presence now (google how popular voxbone is internationally for selling ranges to scammers which I think has been hitting a call centre here with domestic looking ones)

As for yours.

9 841   spare 9 842   spare 9 843   spare 9 844   spare

https://www.nad.org.nz/number-register/ each CSV has the range/provider :)

I wonder if a lot of these spam calls are from people who have hacked pbx phone systems

and how many companies don't update their software / firmware for the phone systems or don't change the default passwords etc

Cool, I'm now getting scam SMS messages from a supposed courier wanting me to open a link to a dodgy website to verify a delivery is for me or not.

Replied to it with a polite response.

I have been getting quite a few scam calls from what appear to be spoofed mobile numbers, eg beginning with 022.

Same here, seem to go through passes were I'll get a few then they stop for a few days. I've just stopped answering my phone as I don't really tend to get many calls that need me attention and anything important they'll leave a voicemail or have another way to message me. It's getting wow annoying though.
