rz001:

it is noteworthy (but not conclusive) that One NZ will accept a $30 payment to unlock any MobiWire Ogima 2 cellphone purchased from them. if the phone did not support usage on the other networks then One NZ would be selling a service that was not 'fit for purpose' as defined under the CGA.

It is not noteworthy, because the unlock service also applies to virtual network operators that use the One NZ network. For example, the TCL 4043 sold by One NZ has to be unlocked to be used with a Kogan Mobile sim card.

Are you agreeing with me or arguing with me? From the tone of your post I cannot tell.

It is expected that a handset SIM locked to One.NZ will not work with a Kogan mobile SIM unless the handset is unlocked

Kogan mobile is a MVNO on One.NZ so really they are a different mobile provider

It appears that you missed the point of my post, which was about the 'fit for purpose'/CGA aspect of the unlock service from Rob's post that I quoted. In the example that I gave, the service is indeed 'fit for purpose'.

UPDATE:

today (12-march-2026) i received additional information, confirming that at this time, even with the SIM-lock removed, the MobiWire Ogima 2 cellphone (as sold by One NZ) is NOT capable of making voice calls (VoLTE) on the 2degrees network.

many thanks to those who have contributed to this thread, and to those who have provided me with addition information.

cheers,

rob   :-)
