I have a Redmi 6A - I set it up some time ago for VoLTE using the calling code. Then yesterday after ONE shut down 3G I can no longer receive or make calls ...

I did think it was all good to go because VoLTE is enabled in settings and LTE is set as preferred network type. And yet ...

I dialled the code again to be sure until I got the checking disabled msg. Many reboots. Still no calling.

I have a newer Redmi as well, an A3 which works fine. Put my sim in that phone and it still works fine. So no more ideas ...

Does anyone know any other tricks?

No luck on my Nokia 2720 still (will try a 2D SIM later).

Surprisingly my Redmi Note 9 Pro which I've gone back to (LineageOS 21 atm) is working on VoLTE (but not VoWiFi).

If you bought it through a telco, assuming in recent years, it should be VoLTE compatible- in which case it’s not fit for purpose

Unfortunately not through a telco. The phone is a few years old at this point I do not really have the budget to keep upgrading phones and tend to hang on to them a while. I'm just disappointed that a phone that is 5g the latest of the g's can not even make phone calls anymore.

Any ideas about why this phone can't make calls?

The pbtech procedure worked fine, but still nothing (:

Are you certain it's the phone?  Have you tried your SIM in another phone that works?

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

@MadEngineer Yes as I directed them how to enable VoLTE on the handset and they confirmed it is now working

I think in celebration of the then known “Telecom XT” network closing down tonight, the hitler video of when they had RNC woes deserves one last play: https://youtu.be/0ogDsAore60?si=IqEXuTpo02xmsLpD
