Im with 2D and have no reason to cancel my services with them, but as my LG G6 supports dual SIMs and Pokemon Go is starting to use a considerable amount of data, I have been looking for another source of data. After my issues with roaming on 2D last week, I was thinking Skinny/Spark network but the extra cost to get a data rollover type plan with calls and text messages I dont need seems excessive.

1GB for $8 on Warehouse Mobile seems just about person; if it indeed works the way I "think" it should work on a dual SIM phone
I want to be on 2D for calls/text messages, but have data coming through the second SIM (Warehouse). I'll probably pick up a SIM card, load it with $10 and give it a shot

Check that your phone can roam on the dual sim, since you'll be roaming whenever you are outside 2 degrees coverage areas.

Until I put in a second SIM, everything is greyed out (LG G6)

If I can't, I would still have SIM 1 which will data roam (unless it doesn't as what happened last week)

Check what speeds the second SIM can support. Lots of dual SIM phones can only do 2G on the second SIM. Even some quite advanced phones suffer this problem. It can make managing multiple SIMs a real pain.

My S8+ SM-G955FD is one of them. (not happy) As 2deg have announced that they will be closing their 2G network, meaning Vodafone will be the only one left offering 2G. But Vodafone don't offer EDGE data on their 2G. Sure EDGE is pretty slow, but it is still enough for audio streaming. GPRS is practically useless.

Surely NZ is not the only country in the world that is closing down it's 2G networks.

I'm curious, if you were to change to Warehouse Mobile and port your current number over so you could just pay $8 per 1GB as needed - what would be the disadvantages to you compared to using 2 SIMs?

Also: If you simply changed plans (with 2D or changing to another provider) to one with more data, what would be the disadvantages compared to keeping your current plan and adding a second SIM?

This change is making me consider moving my number over and using these guys.

I don't make many calls and 4c per minute is pretty cheap for when I do need to.

I mainly want data available and now at $4 for 500MB and data rolling over if you renew the data pack before it has expired, that's pretty cheap.

You and me both. I don't make many phone calls (12 minutes in the last 2 months!) and send even less texts - I pretty much only want data. I've been with Skinny since Telecom shut off the CDMA network 5 years ago but I'm seriously considering Warehouse Mobile now as I currently spend $16 month on the Core combo, with 150 minutes and unlimited texts that I never use, but that could be $8 for just the 1GB data. I hate paying for things I don't use which is one reason I'll never have Sky until they unbundle the channels.

If Skinny had a data only offering I probably wouldn't even be considering a move.

So I've delayed my move due to the 1.5GB monthly bonus rollover data I'm getting on my Skinny CORE combo until 31st January 2018. Perhaps they may have even stopped it completely.

@Aredwood Try this: (from a s7 forum on XDA)

How to:
1. set 4G on the sim you want, then turn off that sim.
2. then for the other sim set it to 3G/2G
3. then turn on the sim that you turned off
4. if done right you will see SIM1 LTE/3G/2G, SIM2 3G/2G. or SIM1 3G/2G , SIM2 LTE/3G/2G

After work Friday I did go and grab a Warehouse Mobile SIM card with a $10 credit voucher.

Put in the new SIM in phone (as SIM #2), registered and purchased the $8 1GB Data pack. After several reboots, entering the APN manually (phone did not want to apply it using the settings sent via the website) and turning on roaming, everything seems to work as expected.

I have my 2D Number in SIM #1 for calls and text messages, and Warehouse Mobile in SIM #2 for data

Does anyone know if the roll over data packs can be changed each month and still keep roll over?
For example:

1st month, buy $30 4gb pack
2nd month, buy $4 500mb pack
3rd month, buy $8 1gb pack - and the above 2 packs have rolled over, up to 90 days each

Thinking of whether this is a good data alternative to the $99 for 12gb (6 months) data I buy on 2degrees, for a 4g modem at a holiday bach, used over the summer months, where usage varies month to month.

As $30 for 4gb ($7.50 / GB), is cheaper per GB than the 2degrees zone data pack of $99 for 12 GB ($8.25 / GB), and potentially more flexible.

Packs do not auto renew [1], and you can buy any pack at any time. For example, if you buy a $4 data pack, but use it all up in 20 days, you can buy another one straight away. If you do buy an additional pack within 31 days of the first one, data from both packs is 31 days from the date of purchase of the new pack.

That's factually incorrect. From the Warehouse Mobile website: "Two Degrees Mobile Limited (2degrees), is the Mobile Provider and provides the Services for Warehouse Mobile to you. Your Agreement for Services is with the Mobile Provider". So Warehouse Mobile is to 2 degrees, what Skinny is to Spark.

If I posted over to Warehouse from 2D, I would loose my current carry over values (I do have 5GB of data still available for use)
However at a time when I have used all my carry over values, then nothing would hold me back (technically)

Current "plan" with 2D is the best they offer for prepaid, everything else is additional "packs" which are significantly more expensive than Warehouse
Current 2D "plan" is also monthly while other providers are going to 4 week "months" which is an additional pack per year (although $16 x 13 on Skinny vs $19 x 12 on 2D is still in Skinnys favour)

OK, that raises another question:

Since you have added a second SIM for the sake of data, why not just use as much data as you want on the first SIM and then change providers once the carry over data is used up? In fact, since you have 5GB of carry over data why would you decide you need another source of data?

I've never bothered with dual-SIM, I can imagine some situations where it could be useful but this situation isn't one where I'd think it would be worth it. The main situation that I can see value would be where you are on two completely different networks and you want a working phone when you have signal on one but not the other. Another situation theoretically could be if one provider was offering much better value on texting while another offered much better value on calls, but Warehouse Mobile seems to be cheaper on everything. Yet another would be where you have a work number and your own private number and only want to carry one phone.
