Got my 021 8XX XXX in 2007, can't remember if it was pre-pay or post pay now.  Like having the short one, also now the old SKY debt collection calls from the previous owner finally stopped a couple years ago.

@jonb you could of only got that number connected on postpay

When would they have started recycling numbers? I don't think I ever had any concerns with my 021 4.. number. I thought this one was picked up around '03/04.

90 days after deactivation they can be reallocated

John

Got an 0215***** number that I picked up on post pay in 2008. Guessing it was recycled. They had heaps of options when I went to sign up, spent a good 20 minutes trying different combinations before coming up with the one I've got. Its the only phone number my wife has ever been able to remember as well.

Still remember my first mobile in 2000-2001 purchased from Ben Rumble Communications at Riccarton Mall (think that was the store name?). Took it to the West Coast where there was limited coverage, got about 1 call a month on it.

I got my 021 xx yy zz number in 1993 from Bellsouth.

I was working with Philips at the time when they were active in the mobile phone market (manufacturing in Germany, before going into partnership with Nokia).

My Mum has a 021 xy zz yx number which I'm certain is a 1993 issue. My father bought a phone for my teenage sister at the time. The number has seen a few phones over that time, but has been ported away to another provider now. I've had "my" word number 020 prefix since became available in 2012.

Pretty happy with my (originally prepaid number) I obtained around 2000. It has 3 distinct numbers in it (2 if you exclude the prefix), and 6 consecutive numbers are the same. Often people don't believe it's a real number though...

I considered getting a few more that were just above the number for resale, however, decided against it. It's pretty lucky as I would have kept them for a while and apparently, even sealed unused prepay packs have their numbers recycled if not used for a while.

Not so much the scammers, more the people who ring just because they want to try the number. One time I received a whole lot of texts from Vodafone for a service that hadn't been released yet. Turns out a programmer used my number as a test number as it was an easy number to enter. Actually, that's happened a few times now.
