At risk of being a me too, I'd like to thank Johnathan for both the web apology and the phone call. That's a good look, Black and White!

reignofgold: Great, now I wonder how many people have my private email address?

Also, seriously, who in their right mind sends an email with a BMP file as the logo... Geez

It was an honest mistake, we are human after all. I think a heartfelt apology from the CEO on Geekzone should be enough...

A phone call to each and every recipient of the email is going to take the CEO a long time but I imagine it would probably pay off. I wonder when he's going to call me, or it just a case of squeaky wheels and oil?

I'm guessing he's just calling the Beta Testers, or the ones that are still with B+W as I registered for beta testing and didn't get a call (never got into the beta though)

I wasn't invited into the Beta either and neither was my wife - I supposed it was because we didn't supply mobile numbers in the online form - in retrospect this was probably wise!!

As far as the email goes its good to see the CEO's apology which while accepted does little to remedy the situation and I would also suggest that :
(i) Another email should be sent to those who received the original email in case they don't read GZ (obviously as a BCC) - by not doing this it appears that B&W are hoping that many people will not notice the error.
(ii) B&W should consider offering something tangible - special offer etc  to those whose privacy has been compromised.
(iii) As others have mentioned there should be an 'unsubscribe' link - as my initial reason for supplying an email address was to receive a beta-invite - which I did not get (and didn't even get a courtesy email saying that I hadn't been selected as a beta tester) - I wasn't particularly impressed when I received todays email - before I even noticed that the email addresses had been revealed.

Not a good day for B&W.

Ah yes I am another one that got the email with all the address, was really not to happy but did not email them back as I know someone else would have emailed her.
Lets hope no one gets a hold the email as I really don't need anymore spam LOL

i'm sorry, but i tend to disagree with this.  Using a remailer app/service or using BCC is "marketing 101".  Perhaps you make that mistake on your first ever attempt, but usually never again...  if this was a "first attempt" then it reflects very badly on the experience and expertise of the entire company.

Fair comment, hopefully this is their first and last mistake with marketing.

I cant say I was too happy either (Me too me too!)

But I did email them about it.. Havent heard a peep from them, which is a little disappointing.

While a phone call would have been nice, an email would have been sufficient.

Maybe I spoke too soon...

I just got a phone call from B + W, the guy I spoke with was good to deal with and was extremly apologetic.

Fortunately I had made a bold move earlier on in the piece when i got my new email address to set up a spam account, so all my emails end up in the same place, but i have 2 alias'.

So there we have it.
While it was a realllllly stupid mistake, I am able to move on from this, as there was no harm done to myself.
However i can not speak for the others.

Pretty good turn around time when you look at it.. He made a very concious effort to get hold of me, as there was 4-5 missed phone calls on my phone from him. Not only that, but when he got hold of me (on his 5 or 6th try) he said he didnt leave a message because he said it was un-nessisary for me to pay the access fee to access my voice mail.

It's nice to know that there is still hope yet with a telco as far as that goes, because when other problems (not the exact same, but similar) have happened with vodafone or telecom for example, they have just left messages, and only tried to contact me once. twice max.

So i am pleased as far as that is concerned and can say that expectations have been met with the way they have delt with things in my eyes.

Just thought i better post an update to my previous post.

as for the other users, please let me know how they have handled this with you.
