Don't worry, BREXIT is going to put a stop to that for you....

"Roaming charges are back after Brexit – beware high mobile bills
Giffgaff and Tesco have joined EE, Sky Mobile, Three and Vodafone in making contract changes"

But, if you dig a little deeper: (https://www.three.co.uk/go-roam)

If you’re on Pay As You Go, or your Pay Monthly plan started before 1 October 2021, these charges won’t apply. Republic of Ireland and Isle of Man are excluded from the daily charge. Our Fair Use Policies apply in Go Roam destination

So, a 3UK prepay SIM is still a very good solution if you're travelling

yeah, when we lived in France, we got 80GB of data and unlimited calls and texts around France + overseas territories and the EU for €15 per month. speeds were fine.

When we came to New Zealand and I explained to my partner that we had to pay €61 for the same here one was not amused.

I accidently left my prepay mobile on and went through $20 of credit. The log showed it used less than 50MB of data.

predatory behaviour, amazing the CC do not step in given data packs cost a fraction of that and force them to bill the same
