Out of 233 countries, we're 210th. Yikes.

I think we all know our telcos are greedy, but we tend to just ignore it and pay the bills. Stark reminder they are taking every NZ consumer for a ride.

The survey is pure Rubbish,

Its based on the cost of 1GB of data, ... based on purchasing a 1GB data pack.... I mean who does that these days.... very few people buy data packs, and certainly not as small as 1GB

Looking at the NZ data the average is being pulled up  by an apparent vendor selling a 1GB data pack for $50... anyone know which provider that is....

Those types of study do not take into account geographical, population variations and infrastructure complexities. Those results are only of use to those who want to play with charts.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I disagree, being able to buy data in a flexible way is very important. People use plans because they are forced into them by pricing, not because they want actually want them. Most people I know would be much happier with a situation where if you don't use your phone, you pay nothing or near enough, and you only pay for what you use but without punitive pricing.

In terms of group plans I think NZ mobile providers offer a good deal. With 2degrees you can pay $41.25 per month with 4 people in the group which will give you 40gb full speed with reduce speeds when you hit the limit or $45 per month which will give you 100gb full speed with reduce speeds when you hit the limit. Without group plans it will cost between $75-$100 per month for a single line. It would be nice if mobile providers could offer the same price with single line subscribers.

To have prepay plans still offering 1.25gb of data for the $16-20 plan per month in 2022 when they haven’t increase the amount of data since 2015/16 is unacceptable. I think it’s about time they increase the amount of data with those plans or offer reduce speeds once you hit the limit.

One change I would like to see is in the case where one has their fixed line broadband and mobile service with the same The same Telco that data be it fixed line or mobile be the same data, so if you have unlimited fixed line data the mobile data is calculated as being part of the fixed data. That would allow users to use their mobiles to the extant to which they have been developed to do and not hamstrung by small data allowances and not speed limited to near dialup speed.

This survey would indicate that NZ mobile plans are more expensive than Canada,  which is blatantly untrue

Providing 1TB of data via a GPON is a boat load cheaper than doing via a mobile network.... that's why plans become rate limited, but 1.2mbs is nowhere near dial up speed, in fact its 20 times as fast...

Given that one seldom gets '4G' speed in real terms when one speed limited to 1.2m/ps the real world speed is dial up like speed.

When I first started my business 22 years ago, I was with Bell South and spent $1500 a month. I now spend about $70 a month, the mobile data is plentiful, reliable and fast. I don't have an issue with the cost of Mobile in NZ. When I have been in the USA, and used local mobile providers non-roaming I'm always blown away by how cheap it is, until I use it and feel like I am back in the dark ages for speed and coverage.

For our own business we have a very competitive group plan that covers all staff so they do not have data of speed worries which is vital. As a business we were able to negotiate this however the consumer does not have that ability and the plans here in Aotearoa are remarkably similar across providers. Maybe they do have similar cost structures, hmmm.

This is quite important - just because something is cheap doesn't mean it's good. The opposite is often true.

It might be a good deal if you use your mobile very heavily, but I use maybe 1gb of data a month on average and maybe a few dozen minutes and texts per year.  Some months of heavy use I might creep up to 3-4gb of data. Never understood peoples fascination with using huge amounts of data on mobile.
