Kiwi Mobile has called me, left a voicemail, emailed me and sent text messages multiple times because they want to take my mobile number for "operational reasons". What on earth.

Say what really?

Maybe they missed this part of their mission statement?

Wonder what their operational reasons are. Wonder if they accidentality allocated from the wrong pool or something along those lines.

There are times where this has happened and this has fallen into my lap a few times as a ticket.

It's not at all an easy conversation, some people would have set that up on SMS 2FA, accounts... worse... advertisements.

It's also just a simple "how" did this show up in the available number pool?

So, I ported both my numbers out from Kiwi Mobile to One NZ. They worked for a few days and now - suddenly - both numbers are showing No Service.

When I txt to 300, the numbers are now showing as not active on the One NZ network. When I call the numbers, I can hear the 2degrees voice.

So, presumably Kiwi Mobile has stolen my phone numbers. Incredible!

@boosacnoodle Make a complaint | Telecommunications Dispute Resolution (tdr.org.nz)

This is not acceptable!!! To be honest I would be going to the media about this

I have heard back from One NZ porting team finally - One NZ have said that 2degrees have ported the number back (presumably this was actually Kiwi Mobile).

The One NZ team are telling me that they cannot do anything it now about it because it is a prepaid number.

So, that's it? Anyone can just steal your number with no recourse?

Assuming you didn't get a TCF text while on One (like you would've when going Kiwi->One), and approve the port, you need to tell One NZ that you never got a TCF message and the number has been ported without consent. I'd maybe suggest treating it as a SIM Swapping attack too, and report it to CERT & Police per https://www.ownyouronline.govt.nz/personal/get-protected/guides/protect-yourself-against-sim-swapping/ (Tell One you're doing this too).

They have hijacked your mobile number and this would make a great news story!

They just keep repeating ad nauseum that my account there is closed. So, they cannot help me anymore (apparently).

The number is now living with 2degrees, so I've emailed their wholesale provisioning team.

One NZ customer support was no help whatsoever, so I forwarded the TDR complaint to Mr. Paris at One NZ.

That's right - I did get a txt going to One but not the other way around. I now have no service on both connections.

Yep, report to CERT and also Police via the 105 website, and give the case number(s) to One. Make explicit you never got the TCF text, so it's SIM Hijacking.

Were you ever a customer of Kiwi Mobile? Or did they just come and snatch your number without any prior relationship with you?

This whole thing is very concerning.
