My contract expired around 2 months ago, and since then I've been stuck on 500MB, down from 1.5GB.

As you can imagine, adjusting to that in less than ideal...

So now I'm looking at a plan with a good data deal. Anything over 1GB would be considered, at a reasonable price.

It will be used as my SIM in my phone, so texts are also needed, though I don't need a full 5000.

Anyone seen some good deals floating around as part of a special or anything?

Willing to sign for a 12 month period if required, as well.

Looks like the deals with roll-over data at 2degrees are amongst the best on offer at the moment.

I am on telecom open plan $39/mth plus $20 1GB data pack so for a monthly spend of $59 I get 250min, unlimited texts and 1.75GB which i don't think is too bad.

You can try Try Telecom XT's $19 Big Value Pack and add a $15 500MB Data Extra, so 60 mins, unlmited national person to person text and 1GB of Data for $34.

the $19 plan is also on Postpaid if you have a Landline. There is a $29 plan if you want an extra 90 mins, so 150 mins, unlmited national person to person text and 1GB of Data for $44.

The $15 500MB offer can be purchased on a one off basis (i.e. as you need it) or as a recurring extra.

Telecom Extra's.

2degrees' 12GB for $99 (valid for 6 months, which means 2GB/mth for $16.50) is probably the cheapest mobile data add-on in NZ, and is valid for both on-account ("Pay Monthly") or prepay. However it only is valid for use in a 2degrees "mobile broadband zone" (main NZ centres).

If you need nationwide coverage, perhaps consider Skinny's prepay options

$4/wk Love Bytes (200mb/wk) + $8/wk data600 add-on (600mb/wk) =
$12/wk for 800mb/wk =~
$52/mth for 3,467mb/mth (based on a 52-week year)

or

$4/wk Love Bytes (200mb/wk) + $4/wk data200 add-on (200mb/wk) =
$8/wk for 400mb =~
$34.67/mth for 1,733mb/mth (based on a 52-week year)

I thought that 2degrees got rid of the mobile zones?

/edit. Disregard. I see they still have them...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Plus XT delivers a reliable and solid service, i usually get between 6& 12 Mbps down and 1.5 & 2.5 Mbps up and have yet to discover any dead spots around my usual haunts

It's not too much of an issue now though because their coverage footprint has improved a lot. Even places like Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura and Masterton now have native 2degrees coverage.

Also, if you have a calling plan then you'll get a decent amount of nationwide coverage which will tide you over if you happen to stray outside of 2degrees coverage.

I'd like to see a return of plans like the grandfathered one I am on:

60 min talk time
1000 pxt
2500 txt
3gb data

$40 per month.

It's the reason I'll never change my plan. Or provider.

I pay $40 a month for the following with 2Degrees:

Unlimited Texts
50 Minutes
1.5GB Data

It's the best around in my opinion.
