I'm only just starting my exploration so there's much I yet have to learn and I'm hoping one of you can point me in the right direction.
In the next few months, my partner and I will be purchasing a lifestyle block around 1.5-3ha somewhere between Puhoi/Warkworth and Mangawhai. A few properties we've already looked at, especially those back into the hills, have only weak cell-phone reception, at best, 1-2 bars on Telecom (haven't even checked on the landlines - they're probably not up to much either). Given the work we'll be doing, we'll need good cell-phone coverage over most of the property. And we're prepared to spend a bit of money to get it.
I've read a few past discussions on geekzone and checked the website of a few cell phone 'booster' companies/products but they all seem to be limited to boosting the signal around the home, maximum about 1000sqm from the booster. I've also read a couple of posts that seem to suggest that, in Aotearoa, the ISPs (and, indeed, the law) won't allow repeaters or boosters with the level of coverage I'm looking for. In other words, basically, I'm shot. Is that correct?
If so, are there (legal) workarounds? For example, might I be able to approximate by putting separate boosters in, say, a house, a barn/shed, a box in the middle of (what I fondly imagine will be) an orchard? (I don't even know how these things work - would they each create separate channels that might interfere with each other?) Am I talking about something like a mini-tower?
Anyone able to offer useful thoughts? Point me in useful directions? Any firms that can be trusted to provide good advice - and not just try and sell you something?
