At the last election, the government promised a $50m package to provide cellphone services to areas without current coverage. The 3% uncovered.

This was apparently aimed at local councils applying for funds to somehow upgrade transmissions in their areas. I'm not sure how this would be done, as the different phone companies each seem to have their own towers.

I have contacted my local council (FNDC) and have been advised that they have made an application but have had no response  at this stage.

Has anyone had any action on this arrangement, or is it one of those hollow promises thrown out at election time?

Hi,

I can tell you work behind the scenes is progressing. The public facing information on the mobile blackspot program on the MBIE website is here and suggest if you have any more questions on it, drop the team a line.

regards

Pete
