Hi I have just had a scam phone call. As I guessed it was a scam I said to the caller that I was recording the call (which I wasn't ) there was silence for a moment then he called me a "son of a bitch motherf***** and hung up. With my 2 talk account my calls are all logged. This one originated in Auckland with the number 06 498 140 210. Where can I lodge this number with an internet security group?

Your first contact should be with your provider. Mention the number and go from there.

However the scammers may not be behind this number at all. It could be someone's hacked VoIP system being used for calls, or one of the many services that provide NZ numbers (even Skype).

This means the likelyhood of actually getting the scammers is very low.

You can turn recording on with 2talk so you get some funny calls to make youtube videos out of.

Some scammers are not too bright. I had "microsoft" call a week or so ago. The calling number was my number!

EDIT: Unless you rearrange it -- 0(0) 64 9 814 0210 -- but even then, still pretty unlikely to be real.

Wrong format for a ic CLID. For local call it should be 098140210..

See plenty of stuffed up caller ID even on legit calls recently. I blame IP PBX's configured by muppets.

My sister recently got one of these and recorded the number displayed; it began with 0698 and then another 6 digits I don't recall.

Firstly, there is no 069 area code in NZ. Secondly, there is no ISD 00698 country code.

So I conclude that these numbers are spoofed somehow.
