I've set up an IPSEC L2TP link so that I can get a remote LTE router VPNing back to another router so that the remote device can be logged into (damn you CGNAT, damn you to hell). This isn't the best solution I was hoping for ... is anyone providing a private IP on mobile data?  Would prefer to be hosting the VPN at the remote device to remove the need for the remote device to be always connected back home.

Ps, using the Mikrotik LtAP.

It's possible to create a script that initiates the VPN connection when sent a specific SMS message to save it being connected 24/7 but don't want to be adding more steps.

Vodafone used to offer a direct.vodafone.net.nz apn but don't think this works.  There's these threads but times have changed.

I assume you meant public IP right?

We have two solutions as a Devoli reseller...

2degree's SIM on a private APN, public IP gets assigned, simple as. Cost of SIM per month is cheap. However, data when in use horrendously expensive.

The other is Vodafone RBI, but again, on a private APN. Public IP gets assigned. Cheap data, cheap per month. However, must be terminated with the Huawei router (not the B315, but just a slightly beefier version).

We use the 2degree's cards purely as a backup solution of the main service was down. The RBI service is pretty dam good, but the only way to use the Mikrotik would be DMZ everything from the Huawei router to it.

Edit: The TL:DR would be, if you want a public, "un-firewalled", IP you will probably only get it via a corporate APN.

They may have turned it off but iirc Vodafone used to have a 'direct' apn that gave you a private ip.

that's exactly what I'm working on now ... my EoIP kungu seems a bit weak at the moment and I'm struggling with getting it going ...

Now in the middle of trying to get this working it seems Vodafone's DNS server is refusing lookups of *.sn.mynetname.net eg google for that and none of them are resolving when they do resolve on other dns servers.  The device gets assigned a dns server of 203.118.191.1.  nslookup of *.sn.mynetname.net against vodafone fails, change to google or inspire or orcon and the look ups work fine
