Hi fellow Nerds, I'm new here but grateful for your help in advance :)

I have tried a few products but they're all sending from a shortcode. I really need this to be a normal number that it comes from (either mine or a virtual number)

What I am hoping to achieve is to send txts from an NZ number, (not shortcode) Then I want notifications of responses so that I can re-txt the people an answer to their query.

Any suggestions?

Vodafone mTXT does this. You send messages as an email and responses will come back as a reply email.

We use SMSglobal, it sends via email and can be replied to directly from the recipient.

The same can then be done via the response email, you can send back in return.

It does use a shortcode, but doesn't affect the ability to respond.

Are you wanting non-shortcode so it doesn't charge most customers to respond?

I think you may find the majority of the good web based services all send from a shortcode.

We use BurstSMS, really easy to use API, UID's on all messages for tracking and replies, email-to-sms, etc. But comes from a shortcode (5900 is the default, but you can also rent specific shared shortcodes if required).

Why the requirement to send from a NZ number? I think you probably need to go down the route of a cheap android mobile, unlimited txt SIM card, and some software to manage it.

Thanks for your reponce, I just had a look and I'm not sure that it does. They seem to use a shortcode etc. What I need is for me to upload a CSV of multiple clients, then send in bulk which will say "Hi (name_from_csv), please answer this quesion" this messages comes to them from a full number (eg 021 22 44 33 11, not 5540) and they can reply to that full number.

Thanks for your response, I just spoke with SMSGlobal however they are telling me it has to be a short code (5540 or custom shortcode). Thanks for your response, yes shortcode certainly seems to be all I can find which simply won't work for me. The reason is for authenticity (I never reply to shortcode!!)

Cost is not my barrier, I have spare phones, SIM's etc but just need the system to do it. Any ideas for software?

I'm following up with people on my database who I've struggled to get ahold of and offering them an incentive to come to an event. If this type of message comes from shortcode it appears very 'commercial' rather than personal.

NerDan: Cost is not my barrier, I have spare phones, SIM's etc but just need the system to do it. Any ideas for software?

chevrolux gave you the answer. Find some decent web developer that can scrape web pages & direct him at https://messages.google.com. SMS messages linked to a Google account via a web interface using your local SIM & phone.

There are a few options to use an Android device as an SMS Gateway, or GSM/3G devices connected to a computer.

My previous employer used Diafaan SMS Server software and it was rock solid - the only issue we ever had with it related to USBAnywhere hardware flaking out. You could probably pick up a 3G/4G USB stick, install Diafaan on a device, and set it up as an email SMS gateway with a whitelist for incoming email addresses. This is a setup I've already seen and used in action, and it was quite good.
