TUANZ (Technology Users Association of NZ) has for over 30 years been committed to helping users understand new communications technologies and the benefits that these bring for both companies and consumers.

To ensure that members as well as the general public have an independent source of easy to understand information, TUANZ has launched a new resource about the next evolution of mobile communications, known as 5G, on their website.  Here users can find simple explanations of the technology along with links to further detailed information, as well as being able to download a simple fact sheet.

“We also know that there is a significant amount of misinformation on social media on what 5G is and the unverified health risks associated with this new technology” said Craig Young, CEO of TUANZ.  “ Our new site provides brief and simple explanations of why this risk is overstated and provides links to credible scientific information that debunks any theories.”

Young also has a message to those who consider that the current actions of damaging mobile towers is an acceptable form of protest. “There is absolutely no scientific evidence that 5G, or any mobile network, has in any way contributed to the current Covid-19 pandemic.  In fact, damaging equipment at this time only serves to disrupt those communities, families and whanau who are in isolation in need of being connected for their health and wellbeing, and in particular disrupts and causes harm for children who are now in the new school term, learning from home.”

The information can be found on the TUANZ website from a link on the homepage or at https://tuanz.org.nz/articles-research/5g/. The association is committed to updating the site with new information as it becomes available.

See the problem is they are trying to explain things logically to people who are incompatible with facts, science, evidence, reality etc.. or "bUt tHe gOvErNmEnT/bIg tElEcOm sPoNsOrEd fAkE nEwS"

What we REALLY need is some celebrities is to start spouting off things like "The 5g rays cleanse your body of the lizard-people overlords mind control and allow it to re-establish connection with the earth-mother. Also, make sure to buy my cleanse enema to accelerate the process; hit like and subscribe"

I really like the point that visible light is more dangerous than 5G will ever be.

This is a good start however I think they need to go a lot further in debunking the conspiracy theories.

I can't see anyone that have come to the belief that 5G is harmful reading this then going "oh I was wrong, this says it's all good..." In fact focusing on things like "it's going to be 100x faster" just makes these people think it's going to be 100x more powerful / dangerous.

Particularly just saying non-ionising EMF is "safe" isn't helpful or accurate as we know clearly you wouldn't want to put your head in a microwave oven, or right in front a cellular mast.

I would draw comparisons to the "dihydrogen monoxide parody" and show that anything innocuous can be taken out of context to appear sinister. Then put the 5G exposure levels into context against normal background EMF, earths magnetic field, sunlight, light-bulbs, solar flares etc etc; explain the regulatory controls & compliance testing in place to ensure this is true (RSM).

Particularly I try to explain the inverse square law in relation to distance from a cellular mast with analogy to a candle flame:

"No you wouldn't want to put your head directly in front of a cell tower nor would you want to put it over a naked flame as you would burn yourself. But at night you could still see the light (i.e. "signals") broadcast by the candle from several hundred meters away (if not km) even through your solid glass windows without any risk of harm from being burnt by it. This is how cellular works and why you can talk to a tower so far away without risk of "burning" (or radiation) except it can also penetrate walls you can't see through as the "light" it "emits" is outside the viable spectrum"

I feel like there should be a Civilian or Onion article parodying this... or, ya know, a regular Stuff article.

My wife heard a good one yesterday from an acquaintance  who no doubt has looked at Facebook too much.  "The new COVID -19 vaccination  will also inject a tracking chip into your arm  that will sync up with the  5G towers that are being installed while we are in lockdown and can trace you every where you go. . "
