Can anyone tell me why the emergency number 111 is not available on 4G/VoLTE?

I know that 111 Only support G711A (Or did last time I checked) so it could be a trans-coding issue?

Hmmmm

Hmmm

I don't understand the acronyms but the question that I should have asked is: Is the emergency number 111 available over HD/4G/VoLTE? I have a written note to myself that it isn't: where did I read that? My faulty memory suggests on Spark's website? some carriers website? On this forum? The RCG assure me that it is. The question is important  as eg the RCG have scattered 4G only towers around like confetti in rural areas.

Maybe you're confusing this with the RBI? From Spark VoLTE FAQ:

"Customers in some rural locations may notice they have coverage with Spark where they didn’t previously. This may be due to a recent RBI2 site being switched on. To be able to make a call through the HD Calling network, you must have an eligible device and have the service turned on by Spark. If you have an iPhone, you can switch this on yourself. See the above FAQs to check your eligibility and find out how to request HD Calling. If HD calling isn’t active on your line you won’t be able to make calls – including to emergency services."

111 calling is available over VoLTE if the Mobile Network Operator's core has IMS Emergency calling enabled.

Vodafone has this feature in its core - so 111 calling is available to Vodafone users on their network - also via RCG's sites.

I cant comment on Spark or 2Degrees, but I'm sure someone on Geekzone can confirm their capability.

I must have been having a 'senior moment' when I noted that 111 isn't available over VoLTE. Sorry....it is.

Looks like this is still not working over native Vodafone network. I have tested and call fails. @nzbsgfan

Thanks - also just to clarify: If phone is not locked to 4G, then phone will step down to 3G to make a 111 call. The issue is when phone is locked to 4G, or in an area where there is only 4G coverage (e.g. where a Cel-Fi repeater is installed and running on 4G only), or I suspect on an RBI connection where router can be locked to 4G (NB: I have not tested this scenario yet).

Good morning coffeebaron

Sorry about the delay in replying - I touched base with a VF Core Design Engineer today. He assures me that 111 on VoLTE should be working on all LTE services, and the only reason 111 calls should only CSFB to 3G is if VoLTE is not enabled in the handset (or its not compatible).

Please note - I'm not disputing your account at all - If you notice this happening again, please PM me privately with your MSISDN and the time/date you made the call.

VF can then trace the call and determine what is going on. If there is an issue - its good to have an example trace.

Best Regards

Mark.

@nzbsgfan @Coffeebaron has his handset locked to 4G only and 100% supports VoLTE

@nzbsgfan has confirmed that 111 over VoLTE is currently only rolled out on the RCG towers. On native Vodafone sites, call is still passed down to 3G. So if you have no 3G coverage - e.g. phone is locked to 4G or in an area with 4G only coverage (e.g. a 4G only Cel-Fi) then 111 call will fail.

This worried me as we have phone over RBI on a native Vodafone site, and I set the modem locked to 4G. So today I did a test call to 111. It worked with no problem.

So not only the RCG towers?

Ok, that's interesting. I haven't had a chance to test that, but maybe the RBI router firmware forces call out of 3G. Did you watch the router light to see if it changed during the call? I might try some testing on the B525 soon.
