Hi,

I've got a bach where using a mobile phone hotspot is my best/preferred option for connectivity on the site.

With 2 degrees I get good speeds (~90mb down ~30mb up) but none of the providers want to offer fixed wireless at the address.

My problem is I now want to plug in my security NVR which only has ethernet.

My first thought was that I could get a USB-C to ethernet adapter and plug it into the phone, however the handset needs power through the USB-C port, unless I'm using a wireless charging?

I have no idea if android supports this functionality. Anyone know?

Otherwise I'm happy to buy a 4g route & use that but I'm unsure if that is allowed by 2 degrees, and which hardware might people recommend?

Any other thoughts/ options?

Raspberry Pi configured as a router, its wifi client on WAN interface.

Probably get a Mikrotik router with wifi for less than a RPi.

Thanks this is interesting.

I see some wireless extenders have 'ethernet bridge' functionality like this one:

Would that work?

A USB-C 'dock' with power pass through should do the job for powering a USB-C phone and connecting a USB-Ethernet adapter.  Lots of these docks have ethernet built in, and you might get liucky with drivers.

Alternatively, buy a dat-only SIM package (like you might get for a tablet) and toss it into a 4G router with an ethernet interface.  A secondhand Vodafone B315 should do the trick?

I've used a Raspberry Pi to create a wired connection from a wifi one. It was relatively simple to get up & running by following one of the many guides available & worked well.

It's cheap, plus you can use it for other tasks too in the future. Anything 3B+ and above will be fine. The 4B has the advantage of true gigabit Ethernet, instead of around 300Mbps on the 3B+.

I also have a cabin in which using mobile data is the current only option.

I have been using a USB to Ethernet adapter with Ethernet tethering. The adapter is attached to an unmanaged switch, and to my devices from there. Works a treat.

My phone sits in a wireless charger.

Bit of a pain if you want to use the phone as a phone, but for my use case this is working just fine.

I use one of these to bridge to ethernet, works great. Supports 5ghz bridging too - was one of the few that could.

They can be had for $50 on sale if you aren't in a rush
