As far as I can see most (all?) NZ mobile providers data expires after a month (though it's not clear on all providers sites).

Anyone know of one that data doesn't expire when you don't top it up every month?

Was thinking maybe one of those international/global SIMs might have what I'm after, but figured I'd try get something local if possible.

If you're just looking at a block of extra data that is valid for more than a month, pretty sure 2degrees have a data pack that's valid for 6 months, unless it's recently retired.

If you're also needing it for a data application (eg - IoT device) then you can go on a 2degrees Data Share plan and share data to a prepaid sim. It is what I do for 4G failover / backup in-case my UFB goes down.

Hmm, yeah 2degrees does, but only for their 12GB NZ Data Pack Prepay, which expires in 6 months, but also $99. Not quite the price point I'm after.

Hmmm, this might work. Do you know if you can share data to a sim on Prepay? (I seems to read that way, but it's not 100% clear)

I realise you need to be on plan to do the sharing, but wondering about the receiving SIM.

As someone who has a 2Degrees plan and shares data to two other sims which are not on plans, I wanted to let you know it works great for me, just set up the sims you are sharing to and thats it.

Perfect! Thanks for the help guys.

PS, I now see that michaelmurfy actually said it worked on prepaid "share data to a prepaid sim", it's even in my quote... Man I'm asleep at the wheel here.

@TechnoGuy001 You also don't need to topup or do anything. Just share to the number, insert into device and that is it.

So how do I go about going this?
I’d like to share my data with my son who has a 2degrees prepaid sim.
I’m on a pay monthly plan along with my wife, who already shares my data.

What I do is wait until the Spark $19 SIM's or Voda SIM's that come with calling/data packs included get put on clearance and buy 10+ at a time for $1 each @ The Warehouse.

So I get a stack of SIM's that are still valid for atleast 1 year without activation and only use them when I need data.

ie

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MPPSPA119373/Spark-3-in-1-Prepay-SIM-Card---Pre-loaded-with-15G

PBTech - $4.99(PB don't seem to go cheaper like The Warehouse do)

You can only buy max 3 online, if you get cart above $20 you can use code 'FREESHIP' for free shipping with PB

You could also do something like this

https://www.warehousemobile.co.nz/terms/5gb-switch-offer/

UActivate a $1 SIM from Spark etc, switch to WM and deposit $5, buy a $4 data pack(500MB) + get the 5GB bonus data. To keep the data as rollover you need to keeping getting a new pack/plan every 31 days so it comes to about $5/mo or $60/yr for 11GB.

Kogan also have a awesome deal on right now for prepaid plans(Kogan are on the Voda network)

https://www.kogan.com/nz/shop/category/prepay-plans/?facet-prepay-duration-filterable=30+Days&page=1

$11.25/mo for 1.5GB/Unlimited NZ/AUS txts/calls if calling from NZ. Special pricing that goes back to $15/mo if you don't renew each month. Downside to Kogan is you can't reply to short codes(the 4 digit numbers some services use like GP's, hairdressers etc)

It’s easy to share data with my wife as I can see her number in the 2degrees account. :)
How do I share data with my son’s prepay number?

@CYaBro Are you kidding us?

You ask your son for his 2degrees Prepay number and go into the 2degrees App into the data sharing part and add the mobile number and how much data you wish to share with it and how often

Wow! Why would I ask if I was kidding?!
I know my sons number and I can see it in the app and can switch to it from the list of accounts in the menu.
I don’t see the “data sharing part” you mention in the app…
