I use a 3rd party voicemail system

recently One NZ enabled voicemail on my account (without notification) which intercepted all my forwarded calls.

I called them and had it disabled... (20 min of my life I wont get back) but the existing unheard mail is now showing up (like missed calls) on my iPhone screen.

Am I going to have to get them to reenable voicemail again to delete these?

If you call the OneNZ Voicemail number 707 do you reach the OneNZ Voicemail platform?

Staff should not delete the actual Voicemail box only remove the OCCF divert off to the OneNZ Voicemail platform for incoming calls if they do it correct

Ok I tried again with One NZ... after enabling and disabling voicemail a couple of times the agent gave up..nice

So now I'm stuck with a voicemail icon notification telling me I have two voicemails that I can't get rid of

Google search the background SMS that disables that icon

You might be able to do it
