Hello,
I dont know too much about networking in general but decided to go wireless.
the model of modem i got is located here: http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/detail.jsp?tab=features&pathtype=purchase&sku=3CRWDR10
its a 3com model.
I bought a pci card wireless for my computer (its an old one i build ages ago, xp2000+, winxp pro)
connecting to the modem via ethernet was no problems, and i was soon surfing around on the net.
connecting wireless was no problem either
but this was while the modem was actually in my room.
in truth its gonna be placed outside my room, down the hallway and into another room.
as a result its only about 15mtrs i think, maybe not even that far and my signal strength is only 30% ish
now i wanna return to the store and get new products, but should i return the modem or my wifi card.
just some info on my wifi card. the card is the cheapest i could find. no brand, although the driver is "marvel"
the pci worked initially, then my computer would boot, so i took it out and my computer worked fine, then i put it back it but this time in a diff pci slot, and its all good.
but still cant connect wirelessly to the modem because of the range.
i would assume its the bad range by my pci card, and not necessarily the modem, but is there any way to tell.
i thought about returning the pci card and getting an actual 3com wifi card and seeing if that makes the difference.
what do you guys think
