Hi, I have recently ordered an Orcon Genius router with an unlimited data plan and VoIP.I was hoping to run an analogue phone using the line out of the Cisco SPA112. I have had no luck when connecting the Cisco SPA112 with ethernet connection to the Orcon Genius and a single Analogue phone plugged into the 'line one' output of the SPA112.

The SPA112 configuration utility shows that 'line one' is not registered and has no tone.

Has anybody had any experience in doing this type of setup. I am a little confused as to what voice settings to put into the SPA112 configuration utility for Orcon.

I don't understand your setup. Who is your VoIP provider? You would need to ask them for details.

If that was the case you'd have to get Orcon to disable the VoIP account in the Genius first.

I have to ask - why do you need to use the SPA112? You can plug an analogue phone into the Orcon Genius and it will work straight off the bat. You can even setup the Genius to register with a second SIP provider (e.g. 2Talk)

If you want to persevere then the link above is your ticket, its not as simple as other providers - you need to download the Genius config and decode the login/password from that. Orcon hasn't designed Genius service to be used with third party devices so its not an easy route to go down

My ISP is Orcon. They have supplied my with an 'Orcon Genius' router (without the phone attached to it). I have an internet connection also a VoIP service as no landline connection is supplied with this naked plan.

I have plugged a Cisco SPA112 into the Orcon Router via the ethernet connection.

I have plugged an analogue telephone into the 'line1' output of the SPA112.

I have no dial tone/incoming calls or anything on my telephone

Could someone please help me with the settings that I need to input into the Cisco SPA112 to make it work. Orcon my ISP are no help to me as customer service do not know anything about the VoIP settings for their service. Information provided my router setup page is also inadequate and does not give me enough information.

Nobody can provide you with details to use a SPA112 as your VoIP device. You would have to reverse engineer these yourself using the link provided above. Your post suggests you're not technically literate or understand VoIP so I would go as far as suggesting you're probably incapable of actually doing what you want to do. You will also need to swap your modem for something else as I don't believe Orcon will remove the voice provisioning assigned to a Genius account.

I still don't understand why you want to use a SPA112 rather than just plugging a phone into the Genius and using that? It would be a million times simpler.

I understand that it would be a good idea to run the phones directly from the RJ11 port in the back of the Orcon router. The router is currently in a cabinet so I may have to look at either moving it or plugging the disconnected phone system into it.

In the meantime I have managed to successfully find out the password that is required and change the ports. I have the status of 'line1' to display that it is registered.

Even if you get the SPA112 going you need to disable the VoIP in the Genius as you can't have two SIP devices using the same SIP credentials. I'm not aware of Orcon doing this, so your only option if you want to stick with the SPA112 will probably be to buy a new modem and replace the Genius.

This is no problem as I have a spare one. Does it have to be anything specific or can it be any ADSL2+ withoup VoIP?

Good work on getting it going, but to be totally honest I'm still not sure why you didn't just plug the phone into the Genius and save yourself all the effort you had to go to.
