I'm going down the same path at the moment.
I signed up with the their $10 a month plan and am using the soft phone from my computer at the moment which was simple to set up and works well.

I'm looking at getting one of these this week hopefully to get a cordless option independent of my computer.

If anyone's done it with a Fritzbox very interested in that option, since I already own the hardware.

Just plug in your analogue phone into the ATA port on the back of the fritz - you'll need the proxy address sip.2talk.co.nz and your number and password - very simple.

All the fritz's sold by snap have ATA's

I'm using pretty much exactly this setup on one of my panasonic handsets. It can also register with the fritzbox as the DECT base station, and I have a second handset setup with the fritzbox as DECT base station, but I then lose caller ID which is annoying so I like to have caller ID working on the most frequently used phone. On the panasonic, caller ID works fine with the panasonic base station plugged into the fritzbox. Apparently uniden phones don't implement DECT properly so you can't use them with the fritzbox as base station.

One annoying and strange issue I've found with this setup though is that after extended periods of someone using the handset that's registered with the base station plugged into the FON port, DNS lookups start failing. It sounds bizarre but this happens frequently - it happens on wired connections so is not wifi interference. I've tried both FON ports and that makes no difference. I can't seem to find a solution to this, or find any information of anyone having similar issues. It doesn't seem to happen all the time, but it happens frequently enough and the behaviour is always seems to be the same.

Have you registered a 2talk account yet? You can set up a free one with a 028 number to do your playing about with.

It should just need the sip account details and possibly the stun server details in it.

Do you have access to the Fritzbox's web interface?

Nope I just have the idea right now, I wanted to see if equipment was required before I went ahead. Not a bad idea to set up an account as a test, though I would lose my main number while I'm messing about. Yes I have full access to the Fritz, I own it.

Fritz is in an inaccessible place, putting the handset back there to charge isn't practical. Would be fine to test I guess.

Ah great. So I can basically turn off the Snap VoIP solution, migrate the number to 2Talk, set 2talk up on the Fritz, and keep using the cheap DECT handset I have. No new hardware is a win :)

Buy a $19 panasonic dect phone, unpair the supplied base and pair it to the fritzbox dect.

Use the panasonic base as a charger wherever.

2talk on the fritz is your phone number in 2 fields your password and sip.2talk.co.nz in the other field. Very simple.

Thanks, but if my Fritzbox does it I'll just use that.

Does anyone know where in the menus you configure the Fritz 7390?

Click "telephony" on the left side menu, then "telephone numbers", then add a new number.

It sounds like you are going to use your Fritzbox which is great,

If it doesn’t work then we would second the cisco SPA112 we use one and so far no issues.

I would however recommend from our personal experience staying away from the ZyXEL routers with integrated ATA as we had one and it was a nightmare, We returned it twice, and in the end got a refund for it,

I don't want to hi-jack this topic but my question overlaps to some degree. Happy to create a new topic if that's appropriate.

I'm trying to sort out a UFB connection but also need a home phone and want to keep my current phones. There are several phone outlets in the house and all the wiring is accessible via a wiring closet (which also does the ethernet). I'm thinking I'll go with BigPipe for the UFB and re-use my current router (Netcomm NF4V), which has a WAN port (to connect the UFB), four LAN ports (to patch into my LAN) and two phone ports, supporting SIP. I'm looking at using 2talk for voice and can port my home number with them. I assume that I can just connect to the house phone wiring, from a phone socket in the router and it'll all be sweet.

Does this all seem reasonable, or am I missing something major, here?

Thanks for any tips/reassurances.

That's cool, but you'll have to remember to remove the Chorus copper cable from the house wiring, before you plug your router's phone ports into the house wiring, otherwise stuff is going to get fried.
