I'm considering 2talk for my home phone, their pay as you go plan, migrating the line from Snap because they've decided to increase prices on their new plans. Is there a 2talk getting started guide available for someone who knows nothing about VOIP? Right now I have a phone, I have an internet connection, and I can get a 2talk account, but how do I get the phone to work on 2talk? I assume I need some kind of equipment, and there are a bunch of guides for specific pieces of equipment, but what's the best option for a very low use home system? Cheaper is obviously better, since a home phone is really not a big priority, but I wouldn't mind having one for the occasional 0800 call that can't be done from cell and as an emergency backup.

Is your current Snap line a real (PoTS) phone line, or is it provisioned using the ATA (analog telephone adapter) port on a Frittzbox router or other RGW?

What about the SPA112? Looks similar but cheaper.

They're expensive in NZ, $113, $83 shipping to NZ from Amazon (if they shipped it here).

I too am interested in getting 2talk, so really interested in this topic.

I'm with slingshot on ADSL, but I assume the advice and equipment with be the same/similar to the OPs?

SPA122 is not needed unless you need routing capability. The SPA112 is identical but without routing.

If you're using the fritzbox on Snap then 2talk is really easy to setup through the GUI and I didn't have any issues with it at all.

This is a single line unit, which is all you guys need. It's simpler than the Cisco gear and a little bit cheaper.

How about something like this OBi200? It's relatively cheap from Amazon, though slightly more expensive than the one Don linked to, given the current NZD.

nitrotech: If you're using the fritzbox on Snap then 2talk is really easy to setup through the GUI and I didn't have any issues with it at all.

So I can use the Fritzbox 7390 to terminate a 2talk connection? Can my cordless phone still connect over DECT?

You can use a softphone also. Download app, enter 2talk credentials and you're underway. Works especially well for outgoing calls. On ios I've used the 2talk app and Acrobits, on Android I use the 2talk app, Adore Softfone, Zoiper. There are plenty of other apps that work well too. If you use a third party client you need to enter host as sip.2talk.co.nz your phone number as user name, then check to get a matchup of codecs on the client side and in the 2talk web configuration.

I've got an old linksys pap2t Ata running to DECT cordless phones on 2talk. I also at a pinch use my iphone on the 2talk app.

Are they imported locally so you get local support?

I think it's fairly clear that I know nothing about VoIP. Softphone is maybe helpful, but really mostly interested in a cordless phone at home.

If anyone's done it with a Fritzbox very interested in that option, since I already own the hardware.

I haven't, but it can't be that hard.

Have you registered a 2talk account yet? You can set up a free one with a 028 number to do your playing about with.

It should just need the sip account details and possibly the stun server details in it.

Do you have access to the Fritzbox's web interface?

Just plug in your analogue phone into the ATA port on the back of the fritz - you'll need the proxy address sip.2talk.co.nz and your number and password - very simple.

All the fritz's sold by snap have ATA's
