Is it a gigabit switch? I have no end of problem with dumb 10 or 100 meg devices on a couple of my cheap unmanaged gig switches (cant recall brand sorry). Show a link but nothing happens. Or sometimes things happen and then not happen in a cyclic manner, so it will ping a couple of times, get about 10 seconds of timeout, then another couple of pings get thru.

The devices I had issues with were a sprinkler controler and the ethernet shields for arduinos. Not tried any IP phones in a long time.

Both the TP-Link, and the d-link that he brought are gigabit. Never had an issue with the TP-Link gigabit switches.
I have had issues with the tp-link wifi repeaters(but not the routers with all the router stuff turned off). In fact the most recent TP-Link wifi repeater I brought says it can do 40mhz wifi even has a option box but has only been able to give me 20mhz even when 40mhz is the selected choice.

I have had 2 d-link routers and one would not issue DNS settings and one I'm pretty sure was remote hacked to redirect to ad/spam/spyware sites.
So yea not had the best of luck with the d-link stuff
